Well, after 70 plus visits over 20 years - some of several weeks duration - all I can say is that I've never been robbed or ripped off. Sure, I keep valuables and extra cash in the hotel safety box but I'm usually carrying at least 5-6k baht in my pocket after the night out - must be to do with my liking for threesomes! - but I digress.... But 98% of the girls I have taken back are from bars so I don't worry too much at all. They certainly know where my money is as they would have seen me pay at the bar. Like CJ says, relax and enjoy - just be sensible.

as ghostwriter and CJ state,thailand is generally safe in this respect.
this is not to say people have never had problems with the girls,but for myself,i can say no.
the girls know where my wallet is,at the end of the night,my pockets are stuffed with notes[could'nt be bothered to put them nicely in the wallet].
no problems with my video or camera as well.
with one girl one night and i was very drunk and on the way home i withdrew 10,000 from the ATM.
gave it to her to look after and in the morning i opened my wallet and it was empty.
i told her i had spent too much money the night before and had to go to the ATM to get some cash so i could pay her.
she opened her wallet and gave me the 10,000 and explained i had given it to her for safekeeping.
i had absolutely no memory of what had happened and only believed her when i saw the receipt showing the time and date of withdrawal.
that's honesty for you,but she was my regular girl.

I can't count the number of stories I've heard, I can't think of any that I can confirm off hand. 19 yrs and 100s (?) of girls; I've never been ripped off.

As to conmen, had one hit me on the last trip.. A couple of Africans, spoke good English and stopped me.. first I thought they might need directions.. but soon they were talking about how they wanted some help with a business and could I help..
I told them that I was retired and didn't do business anymore.. gave them a sorry and have a nice trip and walked away..
Anyone younger could just tell them you work for the US Government and you are not interested in business... then sorry, have a nice trip and walk away ..
Often I get stopped by people who do want directions.. sometimes I see them struggling with a map and stop and ask if I can help .. so I don't like to be rude, but as soon as the con starts.. off I go .. be polite all the way ..
Same thing applies to all the Thai cons.. tuktuk drivers (what is up with the offer for a tuktuk for B20 for an hour???) .. Boy Scouts ... people asking questions about your tourist stay as "market research" , etc.. don't let yourself get started as if they are any good the longer you talk the higher the odds of getting hooked .. and that can get expensive

A related problem to be aware of, but not concerned is the "unexpected" phone call/knock at the door.
Some TG's that you saw earlier on the trip might call you in the middle of the night and tell you they miss you and want to see you. Some of the more "bold" ones might even show up at your room and knock on your door.
Just look before opening the door!! ha ha ha!!
And when either answering the phone or door, be pleasant. I can not tell you to be honest, but at times I've found that honesty might just piss them off!! So, at times you might find it in "your best" interest to pull the " I am tired", "I have an early morning meeting", "Can I call you tomorrow" excuse of your pocket!!
Other then that, like chrisboy said. Use your common sense and have a great time!!
