"How is that possible when the taxies are registered and dispatched from the kiosk"
Well I give you one:
About 5 yrs ago I arrived at domestic airport at night.
Need taxi to hotel, so I buy a ticket at the kiost for let's say 300 bath.
Went outside, approached by taxi driver, he took ticket, watch it and ask my destination.
Took the taxi and indeed he brings me to the hotel.
Now have to pay the 300 bath.
Afcourse no 300.......have only 500 bath bill.
Taxi driver take 500 bath and refuge to give money back. (200 bath thip?)
I start demanding that he has to give me 200 back.
Soon realise that HE TOOK THE TICKET, so impossibe to complane....
Keep the ticket you buy, don't give it to the driver ore you might have the same experiance...
Guess it just one of so many ripp offs

get a taxi,, you either agree on fare, or go on meter charge,, there is NO in-between,,, if he wants more say no,, if he insists tell him Chang yet!!! and take your bags and if necessary telephone the police,,

I didn't say NEVER been ripped off, as stated there was one time with a bargirl,, but sorted that fairly quickly and ended in a mutually agreeable deal.

You are in a foreign country ( I have travelled to many), need to keep your wits about you until you find a nice "safe haven or two".

For example I am super aware and carefull until I am in one of my regulars bars where I feel I have sufficient background knowledge and experience to relax and feel comfortable.

I think with many tourists it is the not wanting to say NO ( mai in this case) that gets them ripped off.

I still remember a taxi driver in Saigon that tried to rip me off,,he wanted US$10 for a 2 km trip,, I merely said KHONG ( no in Viet ) Maak wha ( too expensive), handed him US$2 and walked into my hotel. The meter stated 25,000Viet Dong so his arguments where negated as the security at the hotel pointed to the meter!!!! ( US$2 is 28,000 Dong)

Should I complain if I gave him the US$10 ?? no, that would be my stupidity.

wake up people, use your brains, think about what is happening and 99% of the time you will be safe of the "rip-offs".

Now this part finally makes sense. I am amazed at the number of post that advise finding the cheapest means of transport from airport to hotel upon arrival. This idea is dangerous and.....well, IMHO......STUPID.

FYI..... arrival time is the best for those that would like to make a bit of cash. You arrive tired, with cash, passport and valuables.OPPORTUNITY is written all over you. Several hundred baht for a Limo, is a small price to pay. Gets you safely to your comfort zone.

Let's be safe out there.....

I always carry a coin purse with lots of 10b coins and 20 bt bills and that takes care of most problems but as I am on vacation and came to f*** not fight,do not worry about small rip offs-consider it as a tip.Do not want any problems.Would never fight with diver over such small money When drinking I take a lot 20,.100and 500 b notes.never 1000b notes.Like condom,I use to stop problems befor they develop
