Folks:
Having decided to get my first tattoo researched the forums and made my way to Wong (the daughter, have forgotten the name) opposite Gullivers.
Showed them a design about 4 x 4 cms. It's a chinese glith of my name. Quite simple. A one colour job was quoted at 1.5 hours. So far, so good. Now the price; 4,500 baht.
Flame me if you wish but every instinct tells me that this is a grossly inflated price. Would apprecate the members advice. Perhaps like many things one bargains but I'd like to know what the fair price is I should be aiming.
If the above is fair then I think I'll start a crusade to retrain artistcally talented BGs to start up new tattoo parlours.

If you want the thai price send your Tilac in first alone.
Its difficult all I can say is I got much more skin area done in much longer time for similar amount.
The price is the amount your willing to pay, Did you negotiate ? or try somewhere else I get mine all done in Pattaya.

Fat forty six,, INFLATED really INFLATED. Bargain around and if you can't find anyone around the 1,800 BHT mark let me know and I will give you an address but it will require a bit of travel as it's just on the outskirts of BKK, an area called "OM NOI".

Yes, inflated indeed.
I never received any tatoo in the Sukhumvit area but received some Ritual tatoo from a Temple in Nakhon Chaïssi, I allway give 1000 bahts and the Ajarn who tatoo me is happy. I once tried to go to see another (very famous) tatooing Ajarn (Ajarn Noo, the guy who tatooed twice Angelina Joli), for a 20 mn work he quoted me 25 000 bahts !!!! 
My reply was "Ok, I ll become a Thai tatooist tommorow then!bye bye!" 
Not easy to find an honnest tatooist who know its work in Los...

He is famous and he can charge what he wants or considers he is worth. Obviously his reputation is well regarded, it is the same the world over, you pay more for the best and highly sought after.
So don't complain you baht challenged frog, just go to the cheaper versions you can afford. Just don't complain when the bus hits you and your tatoo runs for its life.

The norm in the sukhumvit area around soi 2 through soi 12 about 8 tattoo shops is about 500 baht for the needle ( you own your needle) and between 500-700 bt hr for custom work and some set prices for there own. thats what ive found in soi4. and try the new tattoo school on soi 4,some good work so far.

Thanks for the responses guys, particularly Ripmaster. Checked out the Soi 4 Tattoo school yesterday evening and got quoted 45 minutes & 2,000 baht. Said he would have to use 2 different sized needles. Was impressed with the general setup and he was ready with my answers to my questions on hygiene, etc. Will be getting it done in next day or so and will let you know the outcome.

Got my tattoo this afternoon. They did an expert job getting the design off my piece of paper and onto my arm and then the tattooing itself. Actual tattooing took 30 minutes & price was the no hassles 2,000 baht. I'm happy to recommend this joint.
