I don't have any details but I can tell you the following; 1) You can visit. 2) No bribery is involved. 3) You may bring practical items and edibles to your freind. I suggest you contact the Embassy of the country of which your freind is a citizen. Their consular section is responsible for monitoring any of thier nationals in Thai prisons, and they will have all the info you need. I think only 1 visit is allowed per week for a 1/2 hour, but I'm not sure. I do know that ordinarily the visits are conducted in a public area whith 2 metal screens and approx. 1 meter seperating the prisoner and the visitor.

- that seems about right Mr.Joe ; extra packet or 2 of Cigs for the guards dosent go astray, and of course soap/toothpaste/anything used as a pillow all come in handy as they dont exist in thai prisons. Ive not been to the main one, but just spent plenty of time [ yeh, both sides of the bars- teaching me for poking my nose in !] in local area police stations. In these places, whilst they do have visiting hours, they will usually let you in, as you say, you are kept well apart, certainly nothing private, and allow for anything you pass your pal to be shared/stolen by immates.

TPE, I've spent time on both sides as well; Keep in mind that there is quite a difference in the conditions at a jail and a prison. The jails are generally relaxed and run on a rather casual basis by the local police. They allow most anything for the price of a small gift. (They will even allow visitors in the cells sometimes.) The cops in the Police Station can be quite easygoing and freindly (partly because unlike prison, you may not be guilty or it may be a small case - in prison you are liklely to be a criminal or be involved in a serious case.) and they have lots of other things to do. The prisons are much more regulated and formalized in thier procedures, and more stringent in thier enforcment. The guards have nothing to do but watch over and control the inmates--which they resent; and guess who they take that out on?
