What is the mission of our Bangkoktonight Forum?
The name should give you all a clue… No it’s not BoringTechForum… But it may a well be…
IMHO the BTF is there to inform its valuable members about Bangkoktonight-Life!!! Or have I missed something here?
Its primary mission is to allow its members to pool their collective knowledge and resources’ and update the ever changing entertainment scene in relation to nightlife and related issues in Bangkok, Pattaya and other parts of Thailand. I don’t need to elaborate…
It should not be a place to discuss the intricacies of stock market manipulation or the latest geeky tech gadgets! Unless you really are interested in that stuff!
Holding the first iphone every produced may give a hard on to some members (pun intended) but I assume it does not do anything for many other (respected) members...
That sort of information (though useful to the minority) belongs in a Sub Forum or Sub Forums such as has been done previously with the Lady Boy discussions and DG’s ramblings (CW) …
At least they both had (and still may have) some relevance to the nightlife in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand. I don’t know because I chose not to read that stuff… But if I wanted to know, then I have the option of clicking on a link and reading that forum.
This is how it should be with the boring mind numbing geeky - tech’y investment stuff…
If someone really wants to know what the latest thoughts are from Chairman Jobs or the stock options on orange juice then he/she/it can go Click the linkand play in their own little sand box…
Sooooooo anyone who thinks that the present Tech threads should be given a sub forum link and removed from the main forum first 25 is a good idea (same same Lady Boys & CW etc) please state your thoughts on this thread… Thank you for your time.
Anyone who disagrees please state your thoughts on this thread…
Let’s get public opinion and vote on this issue…
Then once this issue is resolved we (the valuable members) can all get on with enjoying this most entertaining and informative of places we call BTF.

I agree.
Also not the place to bitch about other members. The number of posts I want to read, but get bored with as they soon degenerate into bar-room chat does not bear thinking about.
You know - a great feature would be the ability to tag a post as having relevance to the question or not. So, I could write a funny post or a bitchy post, or whatever, and tag it as being irrelevant; and as a reader, I could choose to ignore all those posts.
Or even, readers could tag them too, maybe.
Don't get me wrong - I know how tempting it is to go on a bulletin board and be chatty. Just saying - it diminishes the board as a resource.

Guess the nightlife hasn't been too interesting lately, so they decide to discuss about techie stuff. Well, if you spend more time participating in other threads and less in the tech threads, that would solve the problem.

I was going to say exactly that, but BK beat me to the punch -- it's up to YOU, not others, to pick up the pace if you feel BTF doesn't have enough content to your liking.
As pointed out, if there isn't enough bar chatter to go around, other topics will swim to the surface, and judging that the iPhone thread along has been going on for 50+ pages, it appears that there is only a *very small* minority of miscreants complaining about *2* threads out of dozens that they take offense to.
Arguably, of interest to this whole issue, could also be the fact that these same miscreants are notably absent from providing any relevant contributions to the kind of content they belabor to be missing - in other words, folks, if you feel certain subjects and contents are missing, feel free to contribute with field reports, weather reports, and other details that would make other parts of the board more lively than those terrible tech threads you seem to bemoan so much - plus, not to beat a dead horse into the ground here, but you guys don't strike me as the most savvy folks when it comes hi-tech (or, even low-tech) stuff, so I didn't think you'd be hanging around in those threads anyway.
Nevertheless, as BK pointed out, you seem to be doing a pretty bad job leading by example, seeing as how you all seem to be hanging out and posting in those tech threads you seem to object to, so much.
As for getting back on topic of this thread - what's the mission of BTF?
- To inform
- To inform those traveling to, and about, Thailand.
- To provide a forum to discuss observations and thoughts, in and about Thailand.
- To provide a location for animated exchange of information, to those that share a passion for Thailand.
So, up to you to figure out if YOU fit those criteria, and if you fit.

I strongly disagree BK.
IMHO The main page was never intended and should not be used for Tech issues NOR Investment discussions… This is NOT the true mission of the BTF...
The night life is always interesting but I and probably other members can't be bothered to post in the main forum because of the tech crap that pollutes every page…That’s a fact!
I log on every day with good intentions then I see the techno crap that is polluting the main page and then say fack it and log off…
How many other do the same?
I am not blaming you BK for doing the wrong thing. Far from it…
It's your baby and it is NOT a democracy. Fair enough!
I and the other members respect you for all the effort you have put into making this what used to be an unrivaled source of Nightlife in Bangkok information. To this day you still put a massive amount of effort into OUR FORUM!
I say "OUR FORUM" because that is how the members perceive it, even though its you baby...
But I do however point the finger at you for NOT doing the right thing!
Move it to another link and then (almost) every one will be happy.
You WILL see this place cum alive!!!
You know I (and others) have many interesting true stories and unbelievable situations that we could share with the members, (when I get time) but to be honest form my point of view I can’t be bothered with BTF the way it is now...
If you chose to ignore this reasonable suggestion from your esteemed members then so be it. That’s UP 2 U as they say. No problemo.
I will still log on in the morning with my Cup of Coffee and then log off as usual…
I just think it needed to be said that’s all and if I have ruffled a few feathers (pun intended) then so be it.
This is not an attack on you as a personal friend BK.
I hope you take this as constructive criticism.
At least it brings a problem into the open for discussion amongst members. Maybe we can make this into 50 pages LOL!

I do remember someone mentioning smuggling electronic hardware into LOS to avoid paying import tax and other duties in order to make a profit... Hmmmmm!
