I'm kinda surprised that there doesn't seem to be any stories and shared tales of Valentine's Day activities -- though this might explain why the girls I surprised with flowers mentioned that they never got any flowers before... (credibility rating - 50%, though not absolutely surprising with the demographics they have to deal with).
Anyway, there's always a handful of regulars and favorites that I enjoy sending flowers to, when the time comes - and this was once again the case.
I use a pretty handy outfit called FlowerFeedback.com, which not only has reasonable rates, but also provides a polaroid feedback, emailing you a picture of the delivery and the surprised and often smiling recipient.
This time, I had a success rate of 3 out of 5 deliveries :
- One girl moved to Phuket to work there after I left, and FF.com was able to arrange delivery in Phuket, as well as have a picture taken. Success, followed by a nice text message within minutes of the delivery.
- One girl just got back to BKK, and stayed at a local hotel/apt/room dive. Still waiting for confirmation of the flower delivery (i.e. the Polaroid), albeit I received a 'Happy Valentine's Day' txt message. So far, flower delivery confirmation is pending.
- One girl works at AngelWitch - received her flowers, with a picture with her beaming smile coming back to me, and a cute text message to boot.
- Second girl works at AngelWitch as well... well, rather, workED. Past tense. Not there anymore. Yet, FF.com confirmed delivery, but claimed the camera was broken. Classic. When I pointed out to them that the girl wasn't actually there, their confirmed, and still confirmed delivery to 'her friend', a girl I have never heard of before. Still, I was more amused by the waffling and creative telling over this failure to delivery. Classic TiT.
Last girl works at Morning2Night - she's actually a really cool friend of mine that I've known going on 5 years, and she was nearly crying on the phone call to me, over how happy she was over the flowers. Cool, she's clearly happy, and the picture reflected that.
On average, these flower arrangements cost between 1,500 Baht to 1,800 Baht, and seemed to have put quite some smiles on girls faces - thus: Mission Accomplished.
Honestly, the one questionable delivery, and one failure really don't concern me, particularly because generally FlowerFeedback does a pretty good job.
Overall, something fun to do on Valentine's Day, and if you ever plan to do something similar, be sure to have the presents or flowers delivered to the girls' place of work, for all the obvious reasons.

Most places of work that I know of, don't allow pictures to be taken, polaroid or not.
And what's a girl going to do, dancing to the rest of the numbers in her set with a dozen red roses stuffed down her stockings/underwear ? Think of the thorns and the torn garments.
Personally I think it is an inconsiderate way to behave, inflicting such pain, although Daffy's intention, whilst admirable, must also have touched a few hearts as well as bolstered FlowerFeedback's coffers.
Far better to wait until she returns from the first or second short-timed bar-fine of the night and present whatever gift you have for them personally.
If you're stuck in some Buddha-forsaken hole abroad
( whoever she is ), you could always leave a message at the bar for the first time short-timing customer or even the second or third if that is her inclination, to give her an extra thrust or two just from you.
While it is the myth that girls who are short-timed early will rush back for seconds or thirds, a lot of girls don't.
And some ladies, who reach their required quota for the month with regard to lady-drinks and bar-fines, often decide to take a few nights off here and there in the month. Many bars still charge them a bar-fine for each night, but not all bars and not in all instances.
Having diverted so much, it's good to hear that while Daffy is in town, Bangkok has at least one true romantic. Well done Daffy.
As for myself, I don't think I can lay claim to having been the only man to have walked into The Star of Light to present a bunch of flowers to a lady.
But that's another story.

Forgive me if I am wrong, for I speculate here: but isn't it the case that anything you do which makes the other bar girls think that you are a fool for her love gives her an ego-boost; and a bar-girl's ego is constantly hungry for boosts; and that a boost such as receiving flowers on Valentine's day when all around her are receiving none should produce a mighty fine pay-off next time she sees you.

Yeah, the girls must be very very happy at the idea of the stupid farang spending 1500 baht for some useless flowers they can get for 30-50 baht if they want...
After seing this, no wonder the girls think we "have money too much" and are nowaday charging hight prices for their time. (you can be 100% sure the first thing they asked the delivery guy was "how much farang pay for those flower?")
Nice & kind attention from Daffy, but aimed at the wrong kind of girls IMHO, they will much more appreciate the money instead and we cant blame them for that.
