This trip I noticed a very noticeable increase in the number of road blocks to search passengers of taxi for drugs.
Over a one month period I was stopped and searched 4 times, but I spent most of my time in Issan so it was more like 4 times in 15 days...
Now I dont take any drug at all and have nothing to hide, but I m still concerned because in one occasion the police started to take the taxi appart, removing the back seats, searching me 4 times and looking to be VERY VERY willing to find something (and also very very rude). Being searched by 4 police guys going throught all your pocket and all asking questions at the same time is not something anyone like...
What about if some police decide to simply plant some drug in your pocket?
Knowing that a large number of the taxi drivers in Bangkok take Yaba in order to be abble to do their 12 hours shift, how about if the police find the driver drug? Will he say it belong to him or try his luck and say it was hidden there by the farang...who do you think the police will prefer to catch : a "rich" farang or a pennyless taxi driver???
With the story of the King Power airport scam going around, I m REALLY scared of those "random" search and the possible outcome....
Must say I am happy to go home and wont come back in a hurry...

4 cops in your face, taking the seats out, f***, soon they will be planting drugs on innocent people as they get more desperate
On one trip from airport the taxi driver told me to keep a couple of hundred baht in my top pocket, police, he said, my next trip I think I'll up that to a couple of thousand
These ass wipe cops are getting out of hand, I never used to worry about them, not so now, they morphed from harmless smiling servants to public enemy #1
There are other stories on different forums of this vigilante bullshit on the increase

Would it help to have the phone number of Thai Tourist Police at hand? (I always have it, but never used it so far) Has anybody experiences with Thai Tourist Police?

Well my only experience with tourist police was far from good...
To make things short I got pickpocketed and managed to identify by who and to know when and where to catch the culprits...
I was not dreaming to get my money back, just to help the police to catch them, almost bringing their heads on a silver plates...guess what happened? At first the MIB simply ignored me (turning away from me when I was coming to speak to them!!) and then a "tourist police volunteer" sternly lectured me that since there was no witness I could not be 200% sure and was likely accusing some innocents!!!

But plantin drugs sucks ! has there been big bust lately in the Issan ? main highway routes North down to BKK heroin then East Laos or Cambo meth traffic heavy.... just look like tourist and carry luggage etc...there are after young men with trucks that are loaded down goin back to BKK

All these tales of the duty-free shops at the airport and this latest one about possible drug plants make me think hard. Would this trend lead on to sudden raids of gogos and MPs to round up "offending" tourists ? There's more easy money to be made there. Wonder if planning for a trip to LOS in future would seem so tempting.

Ekemai bus station is another favorite to try to plant drugs. I was with the wife one time and she told them to get lost, it was good cop bad cop routine and the good one let me move on.
Be polite but better to refuse a search show id but ask what they are looking for.
This is all the problem that was started 100 yrs ago prohibition, still those drugs not prohibited you can freely buy like alcohol just shows what a corrupt world we live in.
Shame really as Thailand has some good home grown products, instead of that imported rubbish thats f***ing up people. That and world fascist bullshit-politics are the main reason for the drugs paranoia. Not based on fact just gut feeling and follow the herd.
Anyway just alcohol and cigarettes for me in los.

Correct Kaymanx, the eco crisis might bring out the ugly face of arbitrariness in the LOS making it less and less the playground we all love so much.
Maybe the future will see less and less mongerers coming to Thailand because of this and the TG moving on to Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam for playing(?) their trade instead of all the Hmong, Khmer, Viet etc. girls coming in...
Well, more so to places like HK and SIN I guess... discriminating bitches...

Cheap Charlie, I have been stopped and searched 3 times Sois 22,23 and 31. Seems to be the Thong Lo police rather than Lumpini has never happened in lower Sukhumvit.

Actually, it did to me in the lower part of Sukumvit.
A couple of years ago I've been stopped there twice.
- Intersection Petchburi / Sukhumvit Soi 3
- Small Soi leading to Asoke from Soi 19.
One time happened on the Thonglor side when I left Glow.
One time on foot, on motorcycle taxi and regular taxi.
None of the times I was carrying my passport. No problems at all. I spoke Thai.
