So far, every time I have purchased my goods in Bangkok I have gotten my export permits through the shipper. I would like to get these myself from the proper authorities as it will be a lot cheaper. Does anybody know where I would go to get a textile and/or clothing permit or had any experience themselves, CV

If you ever discover an asnwer to this please let me know . Trying to get a permit of any type in this country is like walking in circles . Ive been walking a fine line on that for sometime now . It seems noone knows who you speak to or exactly what you are allowed to export as a foreignor . There are some shipping places around BKK that will take care of everything for you at what I consider reasonable prices . I dont know what you are paying already though .

Wondering, why you think it is a lot cheaper with your own export license, Normally DHL, UPS, FEDEX and smaller cargo air freight shipper charge 500,- Baht for the export license. ( they have other charges, but not related to the export license). To get your own license you need a registered company in Thailand. But with this registration you are at the view of the tax department ( others too ) and this is definitely not cheaper, than to buy in Thailand merchandise and sell it without registered company. For example, DHL keeps over 10 years records and they give this information to any authority who may ask….. ( from them I know, the others probably too ) Pay the shipper for the license and his name is in the record, not yours. Any further questions?

hi all you can get such documents easily if you are a BOI company. otherwise go with a forwarder, there are a couple in pratunam, if that is the place you buy your apparel. for larger exports (LCL, FCL) I usually work with BDP asia, air and seefreight, they are nice people and do a good service also to the US and Canada aswell as Europe. hope that helps.

When you use a forwarder, what are approximate shipping times frames to reach the States....weeks, months??? Also, is there a size minimum? I am working with someone on this now but I want to have a little info before I proceed to see if I am in the ballpark. It is in Pratunem as well, for textile items. Thanks guys!!!

I already use a forwarder but when it comes to shipping thousands of pieces that weigh hundreds of kilos it gets very costly when an export permit is 9B per piece (i think it is 9B might be a bit cheaper) Would be nice to get my own permit but it makes sence that it has to be a Thai owned business that is doing the exporting.

I'm confused. As far as I know, export licenses are only required for "quota" items like cotton (taxtiles or clothing), or for religious artifacts like Buddha images (from Dept of Religious Affairs). Thai Customs provides a list of such goods and it is very short. The only OTHER documentation I have ever heard of, is a declaration for commercial exports that is administered by Customs but it is really just for the compiling of export statistics by some dweeb office in the Thai bureaucracy. And usually one only finds out about it if a shipment gets bounced on the US side, comes back to Thailand, Thai Customs tries to charge import duty on it!! and when you show them that it is Thai goods that originated here, they ask for this document, and try to fine you for the gold in your teeth if you haven't got it. At which point you had best have some SERIOUS clout on your side. I have had to fix this situation for a friend or two, they were facing like a $2000 fine on a shipment that was only worth $2500 and they already had eaten UPS charges in two directions Bkk-USA-Bkk. I sent him back to Customs with the bodyguard for former PM Gen Suchinda...within 20 minutes he had his goods, all duties were waived, and the director of airport Customs personally loaned him the baht to pay for the Customs warehouse fees, about $50 worth... Of course we had to tip Su's nai wain a couple hundred bucks. All in all, pay the frigging fee to the forwarder and be done with it.

I think your forwarder is being creative, 9 baht per piece? I'd ask to see the reference to Customs tarriff for that one. It's bullshit.
