Well, woke up sad on Thursday morning (but with a smile from having a "team" last night) because I was getting ready to catch a cab to the airport for my return home.
300B and 1/2 hour later I am at the international terminal at the airport checking in at THAI AIR. My ticket had Feb. 14 on it as that was my original return. I did not want a 12 hour wait in Shanghai so I changed the return date to Feb. 13. No problem in in the airport all went very smooth. Only problem I could see is that when I arrived in Shanghai I had to clear immigration, collect my baggage, check in again there and go through security again. It seems Pudong airport, one of the newest in the world, does not have any provisions for transfering through to another destination.
The flight attendants were very good looking and the food and service was pretty good to (thai air) Got to Shanghai 1/2 hour early, got off the plane and rounded the corner to passport control, well, f_ck ME, 29 passport control counters and every one was open with about a line of about 75 people behind each one. I waited my 1/2 hour, got to the counter and realized that I did not have a Chinese visa so I get hauled off to a little room behind immigration and wait another 15 minutes for them to issue me a 2 day temporary visa.
Time is counting down to my departure on AIR CANADA, I gathered my luggage and proceeded to the AIR CANADA ticket counter, gave them my ticket and was told that because I had changed my flight I had to pay 100 dollars. The reason I bought my ticket on AIR CANADA in the first place was because I could make changes to the return date for free. Explained this to JENNY, the supervisor at the ticket counter and she was not bending on the 100 dollar fee, I had to pay it or not get on the plane until tomorrow. I told her I did not have any money (I lied to her) She asked for my credit card and I told her it was maxed out, she wanted it anyways, took it in the back and came back and told me it would not authorize, NO SHIT.
She then asked me for another credit card and I told her I did not have one, she said that she did not believe me and accused me of lying to her about not having another credit card, she accused me of this 3 times. I finally had to follow her into the AIR CANADA office in the back of the airport and check my e-mail to see if I had an e-mail from my travel agent stating the fact that changes were free on my ticket. I did not have and finally had to agree to pay when I got back to Vancouver. She also told me to call my brother or father and get their credit card number for her. (at 2 am in Canada, I dont think so!!)
Finally convinced her to let me on and guess what, security wanted to check all of my checked baggage, I bought 300 AA batteries in China town in Bangkok and they wanted to know what they were and searched my bags.
Finally boarded the plane and the only good thing (so I thought) was getting an entire middle row to myself, flip up the arm rests, lay down, go to sleep, wake up in Canada. Well after a SHITTY meal, I only managed to eat a few pieces of fruit, I layed down to get some sleep. There were 2 Chinese ladies and a baby behind me, they decided to fold all 3 table tops down and make a bed for their baby, well the baby tossed and turned all night causing my 3 seats to shake and prevent me from sleeping. The ladies also decided to talk VERY LOUD for about 5 hours, they could have sat side by side and whispered a bit, but NO, they had to sit with one empty seat between them and yell to each other. A few other children thought the aisles on the plane were a playground and ran up and down them for hours, bumping into people (maybe a bit of discipline mom and dad????).
AIR CANADA has a policy of hiring fat ugly women with saggy tits and fat asses, ( I would not join the mile high club with any of them) these flight attendants did not say anything to any of these people, isn't that part of their job??
When it came time for breakfast the flight attendants were having a heated argument over the food, it seems one of the carts ran out of beef and the other cart on the other side of the plane did not want to give any of theirs up as they still had passengers to serve. (this argument took place over top of my head)
The only good thing about AIR CANADA was getting off the plane, (well sort of,) Cleared immigration and was leaving and I got steered toward the little room where you get searched, waited my 45 minutes in line, I was the only white guy in there, paid my duty on my commercial goods and left the airport.
I called the girls place where my truck was parked and guess what, her phone was disconnected. I could not reach her so I got a room for the night and called her X husband to get a hold of her for me, she finally called me and informed me that MY TRUCK GOT STOLEN WHILE I WAS AWAY!!

Was it possibly the totally unethical act of prying into other's E-Mails without their permission ? And adding to the damage by publishing those E-Mails for all the world to see ?

And, now you have some woman from Canadian Air reading your e-mail? What a trip! ;)
I hope you learned a leason from all this!!! The leason being that next time you go to LOS, just don't go back home!

It's a pity you guys had such terrible experiences with Air Canada - I was expecting the worst on my way over but had a pleasant flight. The Korean guy in the seat next to me must have had some good sleeping pills and a huge bladder, because he didn't shift from his seat for twelve whole hours, waking only to eat and watch TV for a few minutes before nodding off again. The food wasn't bad, either.
Our flight attendants were two reasonably attractive Korean girls and one very competent guy. I guess the ugly western attendants were all up in first class for this trip ha ha!!
Of course, I still have to fly home... this time thru HK, could be whole different story.

being a fellow canadian, I can definitely relate to the horrors of AC. Even though i'm an elite member, their service has alot to be desired. I often wonder why all the flight attendents are so ugly, I guess its a pre-requsite. If you live in Toronto try to fly AC direct to Tokyo, and then TG to BKK. That route is pretty much empty. If from Van then fly AC to Hong Kong, then direct to BKK. If you started with AC, try to stick with them, as then you can accumulate more aeromiles, if you plan on visiting again this year, you will be pretty close to elite next year, and you won't have to deal with all the bs, they throw to non-members. DO NOT FLY THROUGH SHANGAI AGAIN!!

I will be elite after my next trip, unfortunately I have to fly through Shanghai as I have business in China 3 hours from Shanghai. Once I start flying business class it might help a little bit.
The flight attendants could not offer me a freebie to join the mile high club either.
