Thailand's a poor country, with a shattered economy. ÝUnless you are targeting a really small segment, like ex-pats, or golf players, you are bucking the economics. ÝI suppose you DO have cheaper shipping, since most containers come back empty after unloading in the US/Canada...
Seems to me (and others) that EXPORTING from Thailand is a better bet, and would make you a lot more valuable to the Thais, who will be issuing your visa, etc...

I now a guy here in the UK, (regular traveller to LOS) who exported some terracotta pots from LOS into the UK, there is a big market here for the really big pots as the English are suppose to love their gardens. He cleared £19,000 profit on one container load after paying for the likes of export, shipping, duty etc. However, he said it was good margins but a nightmare dealing with the Thai export/shipping company and lost a lot of sleep over the deal, and will never do it again.
If he were still in this business I would not have posted this!
But I would guess if you have good contacts in LOS this could be a possibility.
