I'll be out of school pretty soon, and I'm interested in movies that have been shot in BKK or other areas around Thailand... TS

The Beach and Brokedown Palace are the 2 most recent ones. The Beach actually presents mostly farangs on an isolated island, whereas Brokedown Palace shows mostly Bangkok (at a prison albeit). There a few other movies but from a while back. There is The Man with the Golden Gun (Excellent 007 movie), The Bridge on the River Kwai, The King and I, and Anna and the King which are all set/about Thailand (Anna and the King was shot in Indo/Malaysia, since the movie is banned in Thailand). Several other movies have been shot in Thailand but supposed to be in other countries. There is Good Morning Vietnam, Mortal Kombat I & II, The Killing Fields, The Deer Hunter, The Ugly American, Casualties of War, Air America, and Tommorow Never Dies. There are some Thai movies about Thai history starring Thai actors too that you can find. These should give you an idea of Thailand and the scenery.

Ahhh..Kickboxer, a very good one to remember, Cataphract. Actually, one of Van Damme's better movies, he really has had some horrible ones though. Yup, Kickboxer was a good one, especially the last fight, it was classic stereotype of what you would expect in a kickboxing arena (Dark, crowded, a pit where they fight in, yelling, unorganized, local dudes with cigarettes hanging out of their mouthes, local guys waving fists of white paper/gambling slips, and the tough as nails looking bad guy with gloves coated with broken glass), thats great!

Bud White, you seem to have got a fairly comprehensive İlist of İmoves. I picked up a couple of books at the airport "Air America" (It gives poor credit to the movie by the way) by Christopher Robbins - interesting read but more on the serious side, and "Bangkok NIghts" by Collin Piprell. The latter is a funny read for the plane ride home and I think the expats among the guys recognize the kind of stories. İA great read to re-live trip memories on the plane. I'll have to confirm but I think scenes from the Move movie "Apocalypse Now - redux" are from Thailand

saw bangkok dangerous at the film festival. the strip bar scene was nothing at all like bangkok. but the outside shots of the city were pretty good. story was kind of off tangent though. but interesting aspects. another good movie you can find from ebay as a dvd is jandara. i saw it in bangkok, and is suppose to be a very controversial film due to the many nude scenes, and content. its about this guy jandaras life. and the struggles he goes thru. i think it is a 9 out of 10 for thai movies. but the again the sex scenes made it very intriguing.
