Looks like I'm going nuts on these little tangent questions, so I apologize. However, what is the status of PDA in BKK? I know that outright "making out" in the streets is not accepted (nor should it be), however, what is the level of acceptance? I notice that local Thais hardly even hold hands with each other (except for 2 girls that are friends, which I must admit that I really dig!) but I digress. All of the girls I have been with have insisted on holding my hand but is it really more for my benefit (being westernized) that they do it or is it something that is commonly accepted? I am an decent looking Asian (IMHO) in late 20's and usually try to match up with the girl so we can pass off as a legit couple (for her benefit) but are we really fooling anybody?

If people see a foreigner with a thai lady that looks like she might work in the entertainment industry, they are going to think "prostitute". So, I would not worry about it. No one is going to say or treat you badly.
As for affection. Thai females are very affectionate and like to hold hands, have physical contact with you in public, like rubbing your back and even a little kiss. My opinion is they do it for our benefit. After getting to know you, then they might do it for their benefit to be closer to you. I hope that makes sense.

same situation here. i agree also that it helps that you've both asian and able to pass as a couple. it's especially true if she's a light skin thai. in public, the most i usually do is hold hands.

- becomming more accepted these days, just note thai students around Siam square, but by and large, if you see a TG holding hands in public with a farang, - you assume he is paying, and she's a worker. Of course the BGs understand and accept this, if you were dating a "Straight" thai girl however, dont be put off by lack of affection in public - or embarrass her by trying to do something yourself - like even a welcome/goodbye Kiss.

Holding hands seems to be a norm here. Kissing in public not so much. Most of the girls are still very wary and will avoid it. However, there is one thing that will help, alcohol. Hell, when they are drunk, they will kiss you, wet and wild.

Amen to that BK! I second that notion as I was caught off guard by an unexpected wet one while waiting for a taxi with my guest for one of the nights. Being out in public, despite it being after 1am, I didn't expect more than a peck, but was pleasantly surprised when the tongue came darting in and out..... (hmmm, maybe I should put this thread into a field report).....

Normal, not Isaan,TG will not hug ,kiss you or even smoke cigarette at public.It's not proper for them,furthermore my gf asked me not to go with sea-shoes when going together.But if you'll stay with girl for long time,she'll become more "western",and open minded.

Right on that one. I am older farang and when I had TG she was always pretty cool in public and she was always uncomfortable if we were anywhere near the touristy spots 'cos she didn't want to be seen as a BG with a customer.

I think that the "pda" changes depending on their age, and profession. The non-working females I've gone out with are more affectionate in public then the working females. They will not become like your shadow, but giving them or receiving a kiss on the check, holding hands, or non-verbal actions associated with a bf and gf are done with more frequency. Ofcourse, all of this depends entire on the female. Some females like "pda" and others don't. It has just been my experience that the professional females will show more in public then the working ones.

if i'm with a girl for the first time then i find they will hold hands and nothing else in public.
once i know the girl i find they show most displays of affection in public.
