Hello all, looks like I'll be taking a class in Thailand from the end of Nov. to the end of Jan. (about 2 months). I have a choice of living in either Bangkok or Pattaya (I will be getting an apartment). Problem is the Bangkok class seems to be out in the boonies (the Mo Chit exit off the skytrain) while the Pattaya class is right next to walking street!!! I'd usually take Pattaya due to the location but I think celebrating New Year's in Bangkok would be awesome. Any suggestions???

Both places have their advantages and disadvantages. You should pick the one you feel more comfortable with.

Being so close to Walking streer in Pattaya, will you get any work done for your class?

In Bangkok, is it that much of a hassel to get to the class?

Just some things to ask yourself.

Personally, I would pick Bkk over Pattaya. I hate hearing "hey sexy man where you go"  eight million times per day.

Mo Chit isn't really out in the boonies & there are tons of cabs waiting at the BTS exit.

Loads of students take the BTS to Mo Chit (I forget the name of their university), so the journey is always pleasantly scenic.

Anyway, quite nice getting to know part of BKK that isn't right in the centre.

Hey Arcadius (or anyone else) do you think its better to live in an area like Mo Chit and commute to "action" or vice verse: like near a place like sukumvit and just commute via skytrain?

Mr Alan
You can purchase a 30 trip Skytrain pass that works out to 16 baht per trip (one-way), regardless of length. If you qualify for the student version, its even cheaper. So I would probably live near Sukhumvit or where ever I could be close to the SkyTrain (regardless of distance to Mo Chit). I believe that you also get free shuttle coupons for the bus to the university with the 30 trip pass.

Don't forget that the action is not just nightlife. You also want to be near food stores and/or restaurants.
