Alright, to all the naysayers, and doomsayers over the past few weeks that kept prophesizing how Thailand will change 'for sure' for the worse due to APEC and the gov't crackdown -- well, you can all pretty much sget stuffed. Got back into BKK on the 23rd, after my trip to Udon Thani (more on that later), and EVERYTHING is back to normal. (Gotta say that around the 17th and 18th, everything was gone) Bought a bunch of bootleg DVDs on Sukhumwit, along with some fake Polo shirts, and fake watches, from vendors all too eager to please. Seems that all the relevant businesses are back in business, and I will find out about the state of NEP in a few hours... Yep, BKK is back to normal. (Not that the gov'ts presumed crackdown on dogs EVER made a dent in the canine population - those puppies were everywhere). Heading over to Pantip Plaza tomorrow morning, and Pattaya the hours that follow to report on that afterwards. Many, was I beaming to see everything just as I remembered it Harry

Just got back from NEP - and let's just say that everything was hopping, and that business appears to have been booming. The places were packed (with the exception of te occasional bar, like Lucky Luke's). The girls still wear bikini's, and aside from getting a serious lesson in pole dancing from my TGF, the girls dance as usual - bored. On the other hand, for a few minutes, my TGF was lighting up the place in a big way, by girating to the music, and pretty much shocking the other girls, and exciting the mamasan. If she wanted a job, she'd have one by now. Damn great gal. Fits the Hitchcock definition almost perfectly. Harry

Actually the Polo shirts (or whatever brand of clothing) are usually not fake, they are real. Usually manufacturer overruns, 2nd's (usually slight sewing mistake that makes it an odd size), etc.

Yes I agree everything is back to "normal' Little children selling gun and flower garlands, beggers in the streets, sidewalks crumbling, vendors leaving little room to walk. This leads me to only surmize that the P4P will never disappear. If the police cannot prevent the abuse of children forced into labor then forgot about them trying to supress P4P. What really amazes me is the dogs. Sukhumvitt is now filled with dogs agains. So what is it.. 1. Did the dogs sense APEC and move into hiding for a week? 2. Did the dog cataches kennal the dogs then return them back to their original position on the sidewalk? 3. Are these dogs owned by the vendors and they kept them out of the streets? During APEC only two dogs remained on Sukhumvitt, but now many are back. I guess that is why they call it Amazing Thailand

Honestly, MrAlan, where do you come up with all this? They have been selling FAKE Polo shirts for at LEAST a dozen years on Sukhumvit, as well as at Pratunam. ÝNot 2nds, overruns, or ones that fell off the truck - FAKES. I won't dispute that there MAY be some distressed goods around, but, like Rolex watches, there are fakes and there are Fakes... I had to post this, because you CONSTANTLY amaze me with the misinformation you spout as gospel... shutthef_ckup haam sup

Hmmmm, the dogs thing is an interesting question. Did they issue each one a mini GPS unit, and so the dog was able to find its way back home? Or did they all hide out in the sewers, and pop their heads back up when the coast was clear? Amazing Thailand indeed! - Balls

Try again. Before, and during APEC, I noticed roughly the same number of dogs on Sukhumwit, and all other side streets. In fact, I took pictures of most of them, to documnet the total failure of the 'god removal policy'. In fact, the only thing that WAS left normal, IMO, was the presence of the dogs Harry
