Just walking around my local chinese supermarket in the uk ( about 25 miles round trip ) and saw Chang for only 85 pence. that is about 58 baht, give or take 1 baht, come on that's cheaper having a beer in bkk, singha was 95 pence which is about 65 baht. why is bkk becoming very expencive.

I buy beer Chang for 35 baht per quart. If I buy 3 at the same time I get it for 95 baht. Thats roughly 32-33 baht per quart. This is at my local market her in Chonburi.
The prices you are thinking of are the ones that are charged at go-go's and suck places. Just like at any bar or strip club in your country, the owners here make alot of money on the beer. They make less money on the girls. The booze is where the money is at for them.

The currently have a daily delivery truck that comes to my home straight from the factory. They did a cost analysis, and found out it would be cheaper to run a pipe line direct to my home. Target completion date March 2005.
I will be getting the damn beer fresh out of the tanks it is made in! It's good to be Chang Killer!

James, I am going to tell you one of the big secrets: any beer bought in supermarkets will be priced lower than the same beer in a bar. You should not compare the two.
I like Krypto and many millions of Thai can buy Singha here cheaper than the price you were charged.

I think that's true in some cases, but not all. In the case of a lot of bar beers, yes: they want the punters parked on a stool and pounding the drinks all day.
But for an operation with a lot of overhead, like an a-go-go, no: drink sales (probably 95% of what goes through the cash register) should just offset cost of goods, rent, utilities and salaries, resulting in no visible profit and no taxes. The off-the-books stuff (barfines + salary penalties - bribes) is where the owner makes his pile.
