I'm a newbie and haven't been to Bangkok yet, but plan to do so early next year.
My main concern is my age, I'm 55yrs old and I'd like to know if this would limit my choice of girls.
Also, can anybody tell me the advantages and disadvantages of hiring an escort from one of the escort agencies that advertise on this site? Any reccommendations?
These main sound like stupid questions to some of you,but they are of concern to me.

Let me put it like this : If you can move around on your own power, you're not too old.  If not, then you are still not to old, but your options are not that big.  Thailand is not a handicapt friendly country. Even when you are dead, you are still not to old for the girls, you just pay extra. 
And if you have a power problem downstairs, you end up having to pay Long Time for a Short Time job.
The fact that you have Baht in your pocket, makes you younger. More baht makes you more younger. But don't have too much baht or you will be underage. And you know what happens to kids in a candystore with too much money. 
And escorts? Well if you like paying 2 or 3 times the top rate for the same service that is your privilage. But what will knock on your door??? It could be the bride of Frankenstein. Probably not, but why take that chance when you have 1000's to pick from if you can walk a few hundred paces? That way you can judge the "book" you will read in your room not only from its cover, but also from the inside.
(Tip : I like sweet girls, so I look deep into the eyes. The rest comes second place. That means I skip the bitch 9 for a sweet 8. This takes years of experience, but you have atleast the years in your pocket.  But if you only want a perfect 10 in your bed, then that is what you want and will get. Takes a bit more walking tho.)

At 55 there is a limit on your choice of girls...they have to be of legal age, well, unless you want to risk being put in a Thai jail.
If this is your first time, I recommend going to a nice MP like Poseidon. You can sit down, get a drink, inquire the mamasan about the girls, see the girls under good lighting and you know you are in a safe and clean establishment.
It could be overwhelming the first time going to a go-go bar or beer bar and the girls are pressuring you to barfine them in a hurry.
If you use an escort service, you would not know what the girl looks like until she arrives at your hotel room. Even if you are provided with pictures to pick the girl from, there's no guarantee that the girl looks like anything close to the picture. Of course you can send her back, but than you will have to wait for her replacement.

First thing to do is get rid of the western way of thinking. Age has it's advantages in LOS, especially if you have grey hair. I'm just a few yrs younger than you, and I have been favored many times over punters without grey hair that walk into a gogo at the same time. You can use your age to your advantage.
The escort services are just to rip off the punters that still operate under the western way of thinking IMHO.
