You know those annoying kids that try to sell you stuff at NEP and elsewhere do you guys have any techniques to get them to leave you alone I dont mind being hit up a couple times a night but theres about 10-15 of them and you keep getting hit up every 5 minutes bothers the hell out of me.. even if you buy something they come back 15 mins later and try to get you to buy something again one time the little girl selling flowers dug her (possibly rabid) fingernails into my arm.. another kid started punching me another kid, after I noticed a large cockroach on the floor went killed the cockroach brought it back to me and tried to give it to me.. then I told him it was disgusting he should go wash his hands, instead of using the bathroom sink he went out to a dirty sidewalk puddle next to the street vendor that sells roast bugs and washed his hands in that?? then he came back and shoved his plauge covered hands at me..
I was thinking next time im there pay the bigest kid 100 baht to keep the other kids away then another 100 when the nights over to make sure he sticks with it..anyone else have any tricks?

This is really sickening. When you see the look of desparation on the kids that work the entertainment circuit, you now know the reason why...
CHILD EXPLOITATION: 4 Burmese nabbed for trafficking

Four Burmese were picked up yesterday in Nonthaburi on suspicion of trafficking in eight Burmese between four and 12 years of age and forcing them to sell candy in Bangkok night entertainment districts.
Police raided a rented house in Muang district where the children stayed and arrested three women and a man aged between 32 and 43 as well as a Thai woman who identified herself as Ameena Amad, 19. She had rented the house to the four suspects and was charged with harbouring illegal immigrants.
Police said they were tipped off by the Foundation for Women, which had earlier rescued an eight-year-old Burmese girl from another human trafficking ring. The girl has been staying at Ban Kredtrakan Women's Protection and Occupational Training Centre since August 14.
"Mimi" told police that she and her five-year-old sister were smuggled from the Burmese border town of Mywaddy to Tak province's Mae Sot district and sent to the rented house along with the others.
Pol Colonel Suras Udomrat, superintendent of the Child Welfare Division, said the children had to earn at least Bt1,000 a day each peddling candy and gum in karaoke lounges and bars in Chatuchak or face torture and assault.
"They were stabbed with a screwdriver and hit on the head. Some were kicked in the mouth and had their teeth broken. The traffickers also used pliers to squeeze their sex organs and some had chilli powder sprinkled into their eyes," he said.
The suspects will be prosecuted and then deported by the Immigration Bureau, he said.
A nine-year-old Burmese boy said he came with his mother and three siblings two years ago to sell sweets near Chatuchak Weekend Market from 7pm to 1am. He said he did not want to go back to Burma because he could make more money here, about Bt300 a day.
Ban Kredtrakan has asked police to submit the children to psychological rehabilitation before sending them back to their homeland.

My wish is to see a Thai crackdown on getting to whose behind these kids. Where is Mr. Thanksfornutin whose says he wants to get underage children out of the bars when they are right in plain sight in NEP and Soi Cowboy.
So have a little compassion for the plight of some. I do not give them any money as to do so would propagate this practice, but I just keep on saying "My ow" and ignore them as dagul has suggested.

Agreed - the level of hustling you get in Bangkok is actually very mild and easily disposed of. Quite a long time since I've even noticed it.
If it annoys you, try a few days in Cairo. Now THAT's hustling. Oddly enough, once you get acclimatised to it, even that magnitude of hassle stops being any great bother - it just sort of washes over you without registering.
I think the key is to not engage. Just concentrate on whatever you're doing/looking for and wave them away distractedly. If you DO engage, it's obvious you're a new arrival (ie, a relatively hot prospect), so of course they persist.

i don't know about the mafia angle,but I have no problem with the kids generally.
i made friends with some but it is so easy to wave them away if you are pissed off.
same as in a Bar when a Girl approaches you.
in a Bar I find it easy to hold my hand up and shake my head and the Girl will normally go away.
same with kids on the streets,be nice and shake your head and keep walking.
never had anyone chasing after me if I treated them with a bit of compassion in the 1st place.
