Can one still swim and scuba dive in the South China sea during the monsoon season or is that dangerous as well? (I read that the currents make this very risky in the Andaman Sea at that time)

You sure can. The viz is sometimes better as well. Yes to currents (as always) but with a good operator - drop here - pick up there - no probelm

High waves can cancel the diving though so can be a bit hit and miss
