Doesn't help when girl has lost her id card ("stolen by thai man") and so borrows her sister's - without you knowing. Claimed to be 20 (and the history she gave backed this up), but when I got to see her id card on night 2 it said - according to the chart elsewhere on this site - that she was 27, which is what she said her sister was. If I'd realised this before I'd bar fined her I wouldn't have touched her, but didn't until she took me to meet sister after barfining her on night 2.
Fortunately no problems - in fact quite the opposite!

Case in point:
The cousin of my TGF started working a gogo bar last year, over the objections of her family and her cousins, some of whom are still or have previously been working in P4P. She had finished her 9th grade test and decided she'd had enough of the structured life. We all told her to finish school first, but she wouldn't listen, and in the "tam jai khun" atmosphere of LOS, she prevailed. I suppose we could have beat her senseless and hog-tied her, but we didn't. She was 15 at the time, and roped in a lot of punters.
So I called my TGF yesterday, she's upcountry at home for Songkran. She tells me this cousin, who seemed to appear and disappear at random from the gogo bar she's working, has reappeared at home. The cousin thinks she's 4 months pregnant, though not sure (yeah, right). Scoop is, she was shacking with a Thai guy while bopping the punters, probably dumped most of her money into this dude. He's promised to show up in her hometown to take care of his fatherly responsibilities. He hasn't of course, and won't. Another runner.
The newly pregant cousin was asked whether she wanted to keep the baby or not. Her "dad" (who is really the mom's boyfriend, a really good guy I've known for a while) has offered to take care of the baby at their home, if she wants to go back to BKK. Not sure what her mom thinks, but I doubt she approves of all this. She had higher hopes for her daughter.
I get two things out of this: you can't tell a teenage daughter what to do, when the infrastructure is an Isaan village (though her mom was working as a maid and noodle vendor in BKK at the time her daughter hit the P4P scene), and you can't trust ID cards. She could have passed for 19 or 16, depending upon your incountry experience and beer-goggles.
In the end, it's her own damn fault, she's a little hell raiser (though a nice girl), so it makes me feel more annoyed than sorry for her. It's clear she doesn't have the maturity to make good decisions that will serve her well later in life. But it wasn't the unknowing punter bonking this girl that got her into trouble, she architected it herself. And became yet another of the thousands of unwed mom's that are the norm upcountry. Sometimes it's not the shackles of poverty that drives these girls to behave the way they do. Sometimes it's just bad judgement.

This is a worrisome question that pops up even when you are not seeking to take a girl to you room. Recently I faced this dilemma in a MP even though it was supposed to be a honest-to-goodness massage that I had asked for. The girl became instantly playful and was all over me and when I enquired about her age she gave me the stock answer : 'thevanthy.' Try as we might to keep out of harm's way, sometimes trouble seems to chase us. Some of these girls are so smally built they do not appear to be even 15. And that is scary. I-cards are often difficult to decipher. The safest thing to do is, if you are in doubt, refuse.
