There is not much difference spending time BKK in October as to any other month. The weather can be nice but you stand a chance of Rain, which is pleasant anyway.
If you are in BKK your pursuits will probably tend to be centered around the indoor type,so the weather is not a problem.
You have Halloween if you are still there which is quite a big party and can be fun. I don't think there are too many religious holidays so you can expect the bars to be open for your time there (if that is your bag).
Also as far as Tourists go it is a relatively quiet time so you will be even handsomer than during the peak times!!
You will enjoy it.

Year to year, so hard to sort out one from the other anymore. I believe King Rama V Chulalongkorn's death date is in October--Yes, should be the 23rd. Many things are closed that day, it's a national holiday, but I don't remember if bars are.

my first trip was in the end of Oct/nov. The weather was not bad, nor much rain (some, but shorttimed in nature). The girls in Soi Cowboy were all costumed up on Halloween and in full party mode.

Hey, sorry to get a bit off topic, but I too am coming back to BKK in October. I was there for my first time last July and I'm afraid I could get addicted. Anyway, I was thinking about visiting Phuket this time around and would really like to have a girl who's willing to trek around Thailand to the various beaches with me from October 16-22. If any of you guys know a hot girl who speaks enough English who may be willing to do this with me for a reasonable price, PLEASE PM me!! The bars haven't been closed in the past, doubt they will be this year. There is a wreath-laying ceremony for Rama V that day, that's about all that happens. Because of certain events on my company's calendar, I've been in BKK many times during the last 10 days of October, never noticed any difference except Halloween is becoming more and more of a party day.
Jake- Don't bother to try to set up a traveling companion prior to arrival. You can find 100's of willing candidates once you're in LOS.
