And what did he mean by "poon"? I've still not figured that one out. I've looked in my English-Thai dictionary but no joy. I've even asked Mrs Shreddie but all she gave me was a blank look.
The best guess I can come up with is that it is a special type of food found only in Bangkok - but as I say that's just a guess, so don't laugh if its wrong.
It's slang for pussy. You can eat it too!

You're right.Poon is a type of food, not just indigenous to Bangkok but is available and eaten there in large quantities especially around the lower Sukhumvit area.

Coming from 1 of the bars I was there in no time, walkman recorder at the ready. Curiously I was nearly thrown to the ground by the sudden stampede of Farangs exiting the bar. I've read about this - a bunch of the more plain girls must have started a rotation...not so however! The girls were adorable up there on stage and they simply loved this North Eastern music I also admire. I was in heaven...but only for a minute! This is where things got a little weird
The 10 girls could see me shuffling in the aisles and a couple joined me from the stage - great, they could show me a few local dance moves. To my surprise the 2 dancing beauties around me then started touching, carressing, kissing me most inappropriately. Surprise turned to shock! I came to the realisation these covorting semi-naked ladies could be trying to lure me into some sort of financial transaction with respect to "sins of the flesh"
Sister Valdelma's words from my early elementary school religious education popped into my head, "whoever looks at a woman to lust after has committed adultery with her in his heart"
Better not risk that and incur Gods wrath - okay exit stage left! I think I was out of that door faster than the Farangs 10 minutes earlier. I hurried back the hotel, ordered a stiff shandy followed by a sherry chaser, took a very long cold shower. Thankfully I then managed to find a TV evangelist channel to seek wise counsel

Since you are into Isaan music, do you also enjoy watching those TV comedy shows where all the men are wearing dresses. They are big hits in Isaan as well.
Come up and visit me some time. There was an Isaan music show at the Honda motorcycle dealer in the next village today. Sadly only four coyote dancers but plenty of Isaan music and men wearing dresses.
