Addy: You'll need to ask the internet shops, some of them have a CDR and some have smartcard readers. Find one that has both and do the copy/burn yourself. Can't really give you actual locations.

So what happens if customs finds some "art" photography in your possession?

If I transfer all my digital pics to a laptop...are they (customs) likely to check the laptop as well??

I've probably done an average of 15 trips/yr in and out of Thailand over the past 17 years... I have been checked exactly once, and that was inbound to Don Muang. They had a casual look through one suitcase.. that was it. I have never had a laptop checked anywhere, although I suppose if customs had been tipped and you were some kind of big fish it is not impossible... just damned unlikely.

I don't think it will be a problem. Outbound they are probably more concerned about security and possible terrorists.

ah cool I'm glad. I heard they sometimes ask you to take the battery out if you are taking it on the plane (I wouldn't carry it any other way) just to make sure its not something nasty! But if they ask to run a scan on my hard disk I'll be pissed off! lol.

I am sure the RISK will increase that they'll check all storage devices (CF,SM, Laptop, external HD like Jukebox, Archos, you name it...) in future - just have a look at the media hype on "voyeur pictures" and the exploding use of Digital Cameras (you can see the results all over the net already .. Me I'm that sort of a guy who loves it to be on the safe side when it comes to a serious check of my equipment (not a big chance, I know, but may be I pissed off a BG "model", and early morning somebody knocks at my hotels room door..? A bit of paranoia may be..hehe... So here my advice for all brothers: 1. Use a program like "Steganos Portable Safe" to encode your data on a CD or DVD (with the new AES 128 bit standard) and NOT on your Laptop. If you (in case of a serious check) claim to have lost your password for that CD (label it with "Business Plan" or something like that) they can NOT crack it. You may be loose the CD/DVD but not more... http://www.steganos.com/en/ 2. Use a real cool software to clean your HD and all traces on your laptop like this one: http://www.evidence-eliminator.com/ No way for them to restore any of your activities (if you use the right mode for overwriting, registry cleaning and so on). 3. In case that you use a picture viewer (like thumbs, acdsee) don't forget to clean the thumbs after viewing a CD. You have to that seperatly. To explain why I don't store picture dat on my laptop: it is my working tool and I am lost if they keep it, even for just checking the HD/scan. So don't give anybody a chance in creating a reason to take your baby...mine is clean as newborn - everybody is invited to have a look or to scan for "hidden folders" and similar tools (they aren't worth a penny when an expert takes a seat behind the screen of your computer..) Ther are some more simple ways to cover your work but I won't post here cause you never know who's reading this post with us (no offence intended). We have to stay a step ahead, shouldn't we? If interested PM me please. Everything else written here is of no use (0) for THEM, even if they guess something might be wrong with your CD (IF they find it at all, and there are so may businessmen and companies protecting their data already..) they'll simply can not handle the tricky 128 bit AES. But you have to use a sophisticated password = important! (mine is a combination of 28 letters, numbers and symbols). Sorry, long post, but I hope it contains some suggestions for you. Grtx Tom

Hello Skippy, the answer is "No"... - up to now never been checked. May be I tend to use those precautions just because I know how easy it is to get results from scanning your system and HD.. (and that includes results you never thought that they might be still on your system, didn't you erase those pics from last year and didn't you delete all Explorerer entries manually..ups... :- and much more you never thought about using your laptop or computer at home). And it quickly gets part of your routine, no big hassle, so why don't be careful.. My advice was just meant in a positive way didn't want to scare anybody. Using a computer without precautions in this times is like not to use a condom with a BG - just my 2 baht of course. Grtx Tom
