Have not been to Sukhumvit, as I have been that tourist that was talked about earlier in the thread. Am on a somewhat limited budget this time, and would like to experience the Sukhumvit area. Any ideas re: inexpensive hotel in the Sukhumvit area that may also offer bkfst. I want to be able to walk a bit in the Sukhumvit area.

It would really help if people who ask for help were clearer in what they want.
YOu are on a limited budget .. I only know one guy who is not, but limits vary.. so what price range do you want.. B500 a night, B1000 a night, B1,500 a night??
Not aimed just at you, but anyone reading this who has questions about costs, spell out what you want .. this way you get a better answer and others don't waste time telling you about the Grand President when it doesn't fit your budget.
Getting Bfast included often means you pay more for the room .. and have to eat at that hotel.. I never go for that route, as I eat Thai for Bfast and that is much cheaper and tastier too.

Well O.K. Understand you want more detail in the Q so the A can be of use. Limited budget means; need to worry about getting the most out of my money vs not worrying too much whether the room costs 35 or 40 USD. Also, would like to have a private room w a shower, perhaps T.V. at or near SUKHUMVIT. O.K. expenses... well, that would not necessarily be per night, but more in the line of cost per. I would want to be able to come to the hotel from the airport, get some entertainment (soapy probably), and then the next day, start to detail out my trip.... and probably only stay 2 or 3 days.... go away to other locations... away from BKK, and then come back to the same hotel near the end of my 19 day trip. Any suggestions? Also, got any recommended travel arranger (tours, trips, transportation) that I could use in the SUKHUMVIT area?

Cal - certainly suggest you base yourself in the Sukhumvit area, probably the Honey hotel on soi 19 worth a look, rooms from 700bt at the back, to 850 bt, includes breakfast, allrooms have aircon, hot bath, satelittle TV, - this hotel is about 200 yards down the soi from the large Robinsons dept.store. There are a number of similar class hotels in the area - you may need to travel to get a decent MP, but again, a Sky train station, [asoke] at the head of the street. By eating breakfast in the hotel, and maybe Thai food for lunch [there is a good selection downstairs at Robinsons, you buy a coupon, probably 40-60bt is all you could eat] - you can drink on the footpath betwen sois 15-13 from 10pm onwards, beers and / or bottle thai whiskey about 60 bt, coke 15bt, and the best passing parade you will ever see - then can wander into thermae, up to soi 7, or even up to Nana or the Grace Hotel, soi 3-4, where you will have no trouble getting someone to stay long time, i.e. until your ready for breakfast the next day, for 1000bt - moral of the story - dont be in a hurry to leave Bangkok, - once you know how things work, and the bros on the forum have EVERYTHING covered, it wont get any better elsewhere ! IMHO ...

Just got back to L.A. from BKK. Stayed at the Honey Hotel for the last 3 days.... You were right about it all. Near Soi Cowboy, Near NANA Plaza, Went to Bamboo Bar etc.... Thanks a lot. Makes me want to come back again and again.... Makes me want to move permanently to LOS!!!!

One of the things I love about bangkok is the fact that I can use taxi's all of the time...easy, cheap, quick (sometimes)....An evening in Patpong is always spoiled by those (like to think they are mafia) taxi drivers who control the end of Patpong....I hate having to walk to get a taxi.....defeats the purpose

I prefer the Sukhumvit area over Silom. Silom (Patpong) is too overpriced, and all the TGs to are surround you and ask you for lady drinks. One time, I was in Kings Castle 1 and I wasted 1000B all on lady drinks because they wouldn't stop asking me. Sukhumvit is more relaxed because you can scope out the girls without being bothered, although the girls at Patpong are truly stunning!!
