A buddy of mine had a similar experience with a wild tuk tuk ride.
But the thing tipped over and he got a badly damaged and broken ankle. Could have been much worse.

Walking is safe along sukhumvit road. Do I what I do is keep only few hundred bath in back pocket and rest I keep it in front pockets. Don't carry with all your credit cards and ATMs. Just one ATM and one form of identification and you are all set to go. Also you can always get a bg as your body guard during night time

Very drunken german bodybuilders, Walking behind the elephant about to shit, and large groups of slow moving Muslim Tourists out for a midnight stroll are three things I try to avoid on Sukhumvitt. (No offense to non-drunken German body-builders or fast moving groups of Muslim tourists of course, as well as diapered elephants !)From Nana to Thermae on a moto-taxi is 20 baht, about 3 minutes.

Ive never had a problem walking around Suk,odd or
even number Soi`s,the only problem I had two years ago was crossing from soi 4 I got stuck on the plantation
in the middle of Suk,tried to cross,looked to the left
and forgot to look right and got clipped by a pick up,
gravel rash, fractured some ribs and a sore head.
Great first night in LOS, I wasnt smiling,the thing that saved me,I was pissed, so I was the rubber man,flexed on impact.

Walking during night time along Sukhumvit Rd?
No problem man. Just take it easy and avoid the ladyboys. Just do not f_ck around with these guys and mainly with the ones hanging around underneath BTS stop at NANA and ASOKE. Your wallet always in the front pocket and don't give a shit to any problem happening on the sidewalk and/or small alley. Bangkok is a safe place. Agree with the comments on tuk-tuks....I don't like them either. Better walk or take a taxi. You won't have any problem.

I doubt many safer cities in the world, but as always, keep alert and use some commonsense, obviously if what appears to be an attractive young TG [ but is most likely a lady-boy ] confronts you, puts her arms round you neck, tongue down your throat, it is pretty obvious her/his hands will be going thru your pockets !
