What strikes me about this thread is that everyone is talking in terms of bringing the girl(s) back to their hotel rooms.
The long standing common sense response to this from residents such as myself -- and what I was always taught by the old hands who'd been here 15-20 years when I arrived before 1990 -- is: DON'T. Don't trust room safes (a joke).
Basic rules for Bangkok Survival:
1. Use short time hotels, that's why they exist.
2. Stick to bar girls or MP girls, less risk of being mickey finn'd, any problems and you have recourse to the bar or MP and they can ID the girl to the police.
3. When in doubt refer to (1) and (2).
Freelancers as your dessert of the night (Grace, Thermae, the discos, and god forbid, the street) are asking for trouble.
I have seen a lot of guys violate these simple rules and live to regret it, and a few that weren't lucky enough to survive.
NEVER take a girl back to your own hotel room (or apartment, or house.) The short time hotels are cheap, and that way you won't be embarassed by a girl from last week showing up at your door when you are banging a girl from this week. Simply don't let them know where you are staying. If necessary - lie. (THEY will.)
A lot of "fatal drug overdoses" among tourists are mickey-finn jobs (muggings by sedatives) by prostitutes, which went wrong.
Almost ALWAYS freelancers or streetwalkers (including most particularly ladyboys). So avoid them. Don't let your little head do all your thinking for you.
Want to dispute this? Then see you on a slab at the Police Hospital, asshole, maybe later not sooner, but eventually.
These are the Bangkok Rules you here about, because for the freelancers and streetwalkers and khatoeys, it's NO rules.

And yet you don't have a problem getting these ladies from places that have the bar fine policy which is the main indication that P4P is most probably these ladies main source of income ( An income you are greatly reducing by most times making them pay their own BF )

just wanna share my experience here.i must agree that the most expensive experience that i had is somewhat similar.pick a girl up in cm2 and realised that she is uni student an dsoent the next 2 days wif her.paid her 5k for the entire duration and thats not the most expensive as compared going out with her.she will bring me to eat at those expensive places, ask her friend along and bring me to the supermarket to stock up on her groceries not for the week but for the MONTH!!!blew a big hole on my budget but nonetheless, the only consolation that i got was that i realli screw her brains out at nite. well, its an expensive lesson which will never ever be repeated the next time i'm in LOS!!

I had written a post previously that I did not send because I thought you would already get enough flaming without me ! 
You have the right to voice your opinion but I suggest you read the numerous posts on the "freebies" issue first.
Also saying the girls care little about how much you pay them but more about how you treat them is a very big misundertanding. Working in a gogo or bar is not something you do to meet people, have fun, and eventually get some pocket money !
Of course they prefer to be treated well and the experience will be better for both of you but try to understand where they come from and what they are after.
And BTW having to pay everything for your non p4p girlfriend who has a good job is definitely not the rule.
In your post you show you try to learn some Thai and have some insights of the culture which is good, only do not take what you see in the P4P areas as the rule for all TGs.

They all know that I didn't have the money to pay (I'm a student, 1½ month vacation) and that I wasn't sure if I came back to Thailand again. So I just have a hard time understanding why they want to be with me again and again.
But again I agree with you (and understand) 100% when you say:
