If you're a terminally shy person, you probably get tongue tied anyway. My recommendation to you, (just a recommendation), is when you are approached, (and you will be), you can practise some lines like, I'm waiting for my katoey girlfriend, (yuk yuk). Seriously, It's perfectly ok to look the girl in the eye and say no thank you, smiling. If she doesn't get it, simply turn your body away from her. If that doesnt' work have Mamasan have a chat with her. My experience has been that this sort of aggressive activity usually occurs most at;
1) go-go bars with less than desirable dancers.
2) Thermae at about 1:45AM.
Again this is also MHO, and other bros chime in here, but if you look shy and scared, girls tend to hone in, and the hungry, more predatory of girls have x-tra ESP. Your "countenance", the way you carry yourself makes a tremendous differance. I personally try to smile alot, and politely refuse aggressive advances as they occur, that is of course unless I like her.

There are now special necklaces you can buy from most entertainment areas.
You simply wear them around your neck and if you are not interested in a particular girl they will automaticaly light up red,getting brighter the more uncomfortable you get.
Dont worry though when you like the look of a girl they remain fairly unnoticable,but they can look a bit cheap if you sit near or under fluorescent lighting.

Are the street vendors still selling those little blow up baseball bats for beating the girls off?
I have had much success when accosted by overly aggressive ladies of the night and ladies of the other category (as they say) by using these bats. The ladies of whatever gender are not injured and almost always take it in good humor. Well....sometimes they do get a teensy weensy bit angry if you mess up their hair or break a nail.
I have had this problem with the ladies pawing over me for years so I know what a burden it can be. Just don't put up with it and you will be happier for it. You will also spend quite a few nights sleeping alone!

No mamasan's in beer bars.
You will have read about Beer Garden in Suk soi 7.
It is unlikely you will get hassled in there. Usually the girls wait to catch your eye and you to invite them to join you.
As I said before, try the outdoor bars on Sukhumvit. You will be able to find a fan to sit by and then watch the Suk parade. Often I prefer this to just sitting in a bar.
