haha.... i used to stop over in LOS for only 10 hours, from 10pm to 0630am the next day!!
and believe me, those nites were very LONG!! its bar hoping...hunting...banging...then bar hoping.... hunting.....banging again!!
it was fun, seem that with time restriction, u make the best out of it!!

Nice one TD. You would get good vaalue at the airport (aprox 1200) at the Rama Gardens, but better to be had at Nana, and a lot more choice fun etc. Only thing to be careful about is delays. I was meeting someone from the 23.00 from Sydney to BKK and it was 1.5 hours late. That would leave you getting into BKK at about 3am (after customs, baggage reclaim, taxi ride etc).
any brothers got advice for where to go if this happens?

I was meeting someone from the 23.00 from Sydney to BKK and it was 1.5 hours late. That would leave you getting into BKK at about 3am (after customs, baggage reclaim, taxi ride etc).
YOuch! fingers crossed im in town byabout 12:30! Is it recommedable to book ahead or can a room be had by simply showing up at that time of night? Bearing in Mind I'm there in July which isn't high season there.

About timing / saving time:
You land 11.00 pm , so I suggest make reservation via net , so You do not have to spend time in arrival hall making a reservation in there.
Anyway , it does not take longer than 10 min to make reservation in arrival hall.
Close to highway AND Nana & Soi Cowboy are Ambassador , Landmark and a pile of other HTLs.
Check "Hotels"-section.
Have bahts already in Your pocket for first night.
You can change more next morning.
If Exchange booths at the airport have huge queues , that is certainly a time-waster.
You leave all those waiting to change their money behind You in taxiline.
When taking a taxi , the magic words are "Take highway , I pay".
Customer pays the tolls , it is not included.
And important point : Take a good shower before heading out for action. Refreshens the feel and TG's hate smell of sweat ( do not claim that You do not get odors during the travel  )

Iwill get some currency before I head off. Im not too keen on booking over the net, but It seems booking at the desk shouldn't take too long, I wont have much luggage so moving about wont be a hassle if any of them are full..but i don't want to wait too long, or else it'll be closing time and I'll miss out on post-flight beers!

OK , when You enter the arrivals hall after customs , just sail through the hall to opposite wall aiming slightly to the left.
You see the signs at the wall.
They ask you what area You like ( this case Sukhumvit area) and make the calls to the HTL.
You pay some amount in there and go for taxi.

Me neither. In the past though I have managed to book through e-mail without ever having to send any credit card details.
Do it by e-mail, make sure you have agreed the price you would have got through the normal booking route (you msy even get lucky and find better, though I have never managed that).
I have found most hotels will do the "we need credit card details" but (maybe as things are slow this time of year) they will reserve a room without one if you give them your name and flight details, sometimes they ask for a phone number as well.
Done that several times now in BKK, have ALWAYS kept my word and turned up, and have yet to arrive and not find myself on the room list.
If you are booking well in advance it is probably worth calling/e-mailing a few days before you fly and just double checking.

ok but one more....I am from sydney..heres my advise and i go there for six weeks in july also..... GET TO FLIGHT CENTRE>>>>> book in the qantas thailand brocher section (even if your not on qantas) one nights accomadation at novotel at siam...it will cost you $120 australian about half the off the street cost. The nightclub CM2 downstairs is a safe great newbies intro into the pleasures of thailand.....you will pay 3ooobaht or about $120 again for the girl...and its up market......(this is enough at present ) SHE is one of dozens to select from...the music and /or band is good usually it rocks til 2am....next morning go to my good friend MARCS at the famous eden club at 1pm then bolt to airport believe me this is your best option if its all new.. go go scence can be trickie if its fresh of the plane...but hey if you decide that go soi cowboy its easier first time.. and suss it out.. if late..themae outside is good advise.

oh and (i need to add ) drink oj from the minute it crosses the west australian coast 4 hours out of sydney....other members might smirk at that comment...trust me. oh and if you like anal action......importan eden girl as well it will cost 2500 baht to take her at stumps from marcs the cabbie can make it by midnight.....The fee for each girl at the novotel is 1000baht but if you want a hoot its up to you and no matter what it will be awesome bro

I sent an email to Nana Hotel asking if they allowed late arrivals (my flight didn't land until midnight) and would they need my credit card. They quickly replied saying a room would be held in my name until. No credit card required.
