Hi all, Let me share one of my experience in bkk. I was with a BG from rainbow and we meet up with some of her friends. They treated me extremely well...with most respect. One of the thai guy actually paid for the meal. On my following trip, I called the girl up and founded out that the guy is now her bf. It didn't seem like he thought lowly of her for being a BG. My next experience that was similar was a BG meeting with a group of her friends (all thai and both sex). They were very respectful of me and treated me like a guest. I never had a problem with thai guys.

Agree with ( Smegma ) & ( Monk ). But what about Asian sex tourists, from Asia or Asian Americans ? Are they looked upon any differently from farangs ? I think so...IMHO...

Being a newbie in LOS, I havethus far encountered no problems with the Thai men. They are quite friendly when I am with their female friends. I think as long as we are nice to their ladies, they will be nice to us.

Asianman, The asian sex tourists generally keep their hormones in check and play around in the appropriate venues. Its the stereotype that fahrangs are the the ones who are less...descreet. For example, taking a bar girl to a nice restaurant is generally looked down apon. thai's are quite proud of their country. There is much cultural heritage and many fantastic sites to see. But to just stereotype thailand as a sex haven is insulting. Even the term LOS is rather derrogatory. Lemme give you an example on how to piss off the locals. I have a fabulously beautiful friend who was an investment banker for almost a decade before quitting and opening up a nice, high end spa. I was visiting her the other day when two fahrangs came in. They ordered her to sit between the two of them and asked her if she has a boyfriend. She said no, and then they asked her if she had children as if she was some bar girl. Then they asked her why a beautiful lady was a receptionist at a spa and what she did before. She said she was an investment banker and the guy corrected her saying "you mean you worked at an investment bank, not you were an investment banker". My friend just acted like she didn't understand english even though she has an MBA from the US. Thai often act like they don't understand when they merely don't want to be confrontational. Just because they don't speak english well doesn't mean they don't understand or are stupid. Thailand is a beautiful country with much to learn and experience. But if you insist that thailand is all about sex and thats how you treat the country and populace, then we hate you.

Monk, I would say that is not necesarily the typical common response of a western educated Thai confronting farangs. Real hi-so that speak perfect english, have been educated in the west and are well in their 30s do often behave very farang-like when confronting farang situations. I am not saying things were not as you say in the case of your friend, but most of the Thai girls who have worked as investment bankers that I know, I think would have made fools of those guys but in a different way. But yes, they are a minority. Now, going on a tangent, I have said before that IMO most Thai guys look down on the farangs that take out the girls from go-go bars. But what about the Thai men of the lower classes? What about the guys who work as security guards in the buildings and hotels where we take those girls. What do those guys think when they see us going to our rooms with the girls?

Generally, the guards and bellhops, generally, give the knowing nod, later ask how how she was, often call before she leaves the building to know that everything was alright. Nice to be taken care of. And it doesn't hurt to spread the baht nicely from the first day on, from taking the bags up, to untoward events that may need special attention. RTB- MHO- only the unlikeable sextourists are the ones hated. As a guest anywhere, my experience is that if one behaves, does not shout, and minds ones manners, things go fine. That said when the scam goes on, and the farang is being taken, brazenly, it's then the farang who hates the native. Goes both ways bro.

Well, have been with my TGF now 1.5 years, and have often wondered what many of the Thai's thought about us. I've found them very tolerant and have rarely been treated with disrespect. Two short stories illustrate my experiences: 1) My TGF got decked out for dinner, and she looks really nice when she wears a long dress (she is tall and relatively slender). We get down to street level to hail a cab. Since her apartment is at a cross-roads with stop signs, a lot of cars would slowly pass, and it was funny to watch people watch us. Then a car of Thai guys (well dressed, looked like office guys just getting off work) stopped and they all started staring at my TGF. She didn't notice (she was looking down the street for a cab), but I was starting to chuckle as they stuck their faces to the window. Then they noticed me looking at them. So I flashed them a quick smile, and the guy in the back seat, looking a little surprised, suddenly broke into a big grin, and gave me the "thumbs up" sign while nodding his head. I started busting up, and he did too, then they sped away. I told my TGF about this later, and she just laughed and said, "not surprise, teelakja, all men, they look." 2) Second thing happened on Koh Chang last December. We stayed at the Sea View Resort bungalows, and ate at their dinner hall every night. I met a few other farangs there, one with his Thai wife (who was pregnant), and several who had BG's from Pataya in tow. Even though the BG's were on their best behavior (this bungalow is also frequented by Thai businessmen and their families), it was easy to spot the BG's with customers versus the other couples. The waiters and waitresses treated us all very well, but they always gave the bill to my TGF. I noticed that the farangs with the BG's always got the bills. My TGF explained that this was because in Thailand the wife is responsible for domestic money issues, so she would pay with my (her "husband's" ) money. This appeared to be the case with the other Thai families there too. I was surprised, because before this, I'd always been used to the "pooyai pays" thing. So my experiences are that if you behave well, and aren't the obnoxious, loud, smelly drunk that accosts woman thinking you can f_ck any woman on the street, you will be treated well. Besides, even the Thai BG's, as evidenced in my second anecdote above, felt they had a certain decorum to keep, regardless of their job. - Balls

Smegma, I'm sure you're right and in most circumstances my friend would have been more fahrang like. But it was her spa and they were customers. And although she's western educated (just the mba), she's not westernized as others who have for example, been western educated since boarding school.
