Seriously talking, Thailand w/o farangs won't sink....it's just that it won't be such an interesting place either!
Prostitution is not so related to the macroeconomy of the Country....what makes "prostitution" different in Thailand is the attitude and the approach Thai ppl have to towards this subject.....it's not good but is not that evil as well and, a very important fact, there is no violence whatsoever involved....here in LOS, a girl is free to chose which way to go....when the family greed or bad financial conditions are not a push......
Prostitution in western Countries is a sinn, here in LOS is more like a joke/game......
Btw, the issue it's complex as the Thai society and its culture.....if you want to understand and explain decently this subject, you have first to learn and understand Thailand!

Well I am not going to tell you the ins and outs of a paper that took me 1 year to right for a Masters. Perhaps if you buy me a membership at Piano I might think about it. All I can say is, do what you are intertrested in because when you get to about 2 months into reaserch you might not hate it by then. You try righting a paper on Marlor and his lifes work and not get bored. I had to do that for my BA.

Prostitution, a practice involving sexual services for payment, a specific offence; although in Thailand prostitution has technically been regarded as behaviour open to both men and women, in practice only women have been legally defined as common prostitutes and only women are prosecuted for the offences of loitering and soliciting related to prostitution.
Legalistic definitions of prostitution, however, are technically and historically relative. Prostitution is not always subject to criminalization and in some cultures the practice may be regarded as a sacred rite. In those societies where prostitution and related behaviours are criminalized it is typically the prostitute rather than the client whose behaviour is regulated reflecting double standards of sexual morality.
Traditionally, the sociological study of prostitution has taken place within the context of the sociology of crime and deviance. Thus sociologists have often uncritically accepted that prostitution should be regarded as primarily an example of rule-breaking behaviour or female deviancy.
More recently, the context of wider gender relations and the socioeconomic position of women, particularly those, which present prostitution as part of the sex trade or sex industry.
Arguably, it may, therefore, be as useful to examine prostitution in the context of the sociology of work and occupations rather than in the context of deviant behaviour.
