IMHO it is a toss up between Pattaya and BKK for most dangerous pedestrian scenario. Funny how eventually you get that battle hardened comfortability with walking too close to the traffic. Scary stuff.

Cyborg

Wow, is it really that bad (cyborg/jack attack).
These drivers must be nuts!
I don't think i'd be prepared for the intersections
what ever people say.

Probably need a BG to Hold my hand 555

jack attack
Uos,

It isn't that bad... it's freakin' worse!! I actually saw a girl get nailed on Sukhumvit by a pushcart going in the opposite direction of traffic. Knocked her right on her butt as she was looking for a taxi.

Best bet is to get two BG's to hold both hands and/or one per nut.

at least she didn't get nailed by a motorbike going the wrong way, like so many tourists do when they're looking in the proper direction and stick their leg or head out into the street,

Whoompfff...!!!

Short stroll actually and the time includes waiting for the traffic lights to change so you can cross the road.

I wouldn't suggest waiting for the traffic light to change when you can just go across using the flyover bridge, or even the BTS bridge...and you can get a better look at the surrounding areas from up there...

BKK Banger
The main traffic dangers are:

1. Motorcycles cutting up the inside of stationary traffic
2. Motorcycles cutting up the wrong way through traffic
3. Motorcycles on the sidewalk
4. Motorcycles in car parks
5. Motorcycle pillion passengers sitting sidesaddle with legs stuck out
6. Cars driving legally and illegally on the left or right of the road
7. Trucks (not during the day so much)
8. Buses
9. Cars that fail to stop at zebra crossings, that means all cars
10. Cars that make left turns at red traffic lights (legal)
11. Cars that run red lights. (and any other vehicle)
12. Tuk tuks
13. Samlors
14. Push carts
15. Potholes
16. Policemen
17. Drunk drivers
18. Sober drivers
19. Little old ladies
20. Me, I am one of the worst drivers in BKK
21. My lady, she is worse

If you can survive all those then the rule is look both ways then carry on looking both ways plus forward, backward etc. all the time you cross. Expect the unexpected. Fill out your will.

On the bridges you will get:

1. Dodgy looking beggars
2. very close electricity cables
3. urine (well the one next Soi 7 always smells anyway)
4. muggers
5. And all the ususal sidewalk nuisances including motorcycles (even on top of the bridge you have to keep checking for them)

not to be completely morbid, but i've seen tourists get run down by cars & motorbikes in Pattaya, which is more like Phuket than BKK
