The Ambassador Hotel has a very nice spa, no-sex massage, steam room and sauna at a very reasonable price. Very enjoyable.

A trainee Spa worker told me that she had to sign a contract before they would take her on then (as part of the deal) she had to work for 12 months after her trainin' or else she would have to cough up Baht 100k (not sure about the amount 'xactly).
Does anybody know if all Spas are like this or did I get it wrong, again!

Unfortunately this is a much used standard in the Spa and Massage industry in Bangkok. Staff needs to pay a 'deposit' before they are able to work. I requested 2 well trained spa therapists to join my establishment. They agreed but had to come back on that promise due to the 'unrefundable' deposit. They were promised that they could leave after completing 2 years at this place!!!
Another shame on the industry is the salary structure. At many places (mostly massage salons) the staff only works for commissions. No customers that day, no Baht.
I stress that the system used by myself is in no way related to above statements. Staff is not 'charged' a deposit and all receive a fair salary and a commision / incentive program on top.

I have to say, that if there is one thing to make me go 'Hmmm' in Thailand, it's the reckless abandon with which Thais exploit other Thais - not that exploitation isn't a human quality, but considering that everyone pretends to be Thai-Buddhist, such behavior seems to fly in the face of that (of course, rationalisation is a powerful ally).
Good to hear that you are treating your girls fairly - I look forward to my next visit!
