Quote: from haraplang on 5:04 pm on Feb. 11, 2005 1. How much is the limo taxi to BKK at the airport nowadays? My Lonely Planet is out of date. 2. What size are Baht bills? Similar to USD or GBP? 3. Just to confirm: the fees in MPs like Poseidon include the sex, right? Anything I give the attendant is strictly a tip? 4. What BTS station for Soi 33? Or should I take a cab from someplace else? 5. Is 2pm stil a good time to go for Bier Garten? Should I even bother? From my research its the best place for FLs. Or should I consider that BGs are safer than FLs? 6. The walk of shame from Bier Garten/Eden to the Star Hotel (I think thats it) isnt TOO bad, is it? 7. Where is the RT on the 18th again? I don't really drink but I'd like to meet you all and thank you for your support (read: pick your brains again) =) Thanks for putting up with a noob.
1. Don't know maybe around 650 baht? But why not take a taxi just as fast and cheaper. Leave the airport ignore everyone trying to get you a taxi. Walk out and follow the signs for taxi. There is an outside line for them with a lady. She will ask you were you are going and give you a piece of paper with the taxi drivers number on it incase you have a dispute or they try to screw you. If you take the toll way you will have to pay I think 60 extra baht (worth it if during traffic times, there are three tolls each 20 baht). Also I think 50 baht extra for the airport pick up is added on to the meter but it says how much at the taxi stall. 2. Baht bills are about the size of US bills maybe a bit smaller 3. Don't hit MP's much but yes I think you are correct. 4. You need the second stop from Nana heading down Suk called Phrom Phong Station with the end being On Nut Station (ie don't get on the train heading the wrong way). Get off and walk back towards Nana, take the stairs down on your right (the side of Suk with the odd # sois). You will come up to soi 33 1/2 first walk past it and you will hit soi 33. Turn right and head down to all the bars and don't do my girl or I will kill you link for BTS BTS map It is fast and cheap better then a taxi is during rush hour. 5. Yes 2 pm is fine for the beer gardens. Takes some searching to find a cutie in there but they are there. Yes a BG is safer as you can go back to the bar. There are lots of honest FL'ers who will not rip you off. I was once stupid and drunk and left my wallet out open with money sticking out just to find out if the girl would take it and she didn't (I do not advise you do that!!!) I picked her up in Nana Parking lot, very nice girl. 6. Really who cares this is BKK don't worry about it you are thinking to much - not bad at all. 7. Not sure as I can't make it I am stuck back home dreaming of LOS But do go!!! you will have fun and meet some great guys to hang out with Quote: Man, the closer I get the more questions I got! =/ That is one of the points of the forum and you have some good questions. bimmher

"1. How much is the limo taxi to BKK at the airport nowadays? My Lonely Planet is out of date?" They have a bus service that goes from the airport to various hotels in Bangkok. It costs 100 Baht. Its right outside the main entrance to the airport. Tell them the hotel and they will show you which route you take. It runs until late night.

Bit of a jump going from a limo to the bus service. Although good value if you are looking to save money is it worth the extra time? Maybe if arriving early and you need to kill some time before you check in. If arriving late after a long flight I would take a taxi. Almost as fast as a limo and only a couple 100 baht more IMHO. bimmher

I mentioned the airport bus service as a cheaper method. It should take about the same amount of time to get to the hotel as a taxi and they leave often. Its also a fixed price, so someone new doesn't have to worry about tolls and if they are paying too much. If moneys not an issue, then I'll leave it up to the visitor.

Good point. Even taking the meter taxi from the stand outside I have had them try stuff like not giving me the change back from a 100 baht bill after paying the tolls. Sounds like the airport bus in BKK is much better then the ones I have used in other cities where it is like one bus that goes all over the friggin city. If your hotel is near the end of the line it takes forever. Taking the bus would be one less thing to worry about with the fixed rate. bimmher PS not to mention avoiding the heart attack you might have after driving with some of those taxi drivers.

Thanks guys. I'm assuming that with a taxi I pay the 60 Baht for tolls when I get to the destination? Oh, another question, I know that tips are not expected in Thailand, does this include taxi drivers too? In most countries cabbies will be stingy on the change and considering that I will be exchanging currency at the airport, they will probably give me big bills. BTW, Ive read in all my briefings that the exchange rate at the airport is good, right? Is it before or after immigrations?

Tips ARE expected in most tourist areas in Thailand from what I have experienced, especially the ladies and cab drivers. You can pay for the toll as you arrive at each toll plaza or pay for it when you arrive at your final destination, most of the time it is "up-to-you." The exchange rate is better on Sukhumvit, if you have 500Baht when you leave the airport that is enough to get you anywhere in Bangkok.

EVERYthing is AFTER Immigration at the airport (arrivals) you'll see nothing but walls and other travelers before you pass thru Immigration the Taxi Driver (NOT Robert Deniro ) will ask you for money for tolls as he arrives at the toll booths you will get mostly 1k bills at the exchange, but you can always request they break one into a 500 and five 100s any tip to the taxi driver is the remaining small change, i.e., you give him 100b for a 93b ride, he gets a 7b tip I often give 50b for a 44b ride, they will pretend like they don't have change anyway but if I have 5b coins, he's getting 45b
