In the UK prossies always use a false name to remain anonymous so it does not surprise me that the same happens in LOS. They choose an easy name for us to remember, Som, Nok, Oi, Lek or similar.

Not the same thing at all. They don't choose their names so they are easy for you to remember. Why the f*** would they care whether you can remember it or not. Their names are chosen for them by their families, usually at birth or in infancy. And they hardly ever use their real full names (except in form filling, etc.). Even in an office it will be Khun Noi not Khun Warunee.

I see we have a know all on the board --- what I was trying to say was that we would never understand most of their full names, for example one of the receptionists at the Majestic Grande is named SUREEPORN KONGSOMPIEN, a bit of a mouthful, even for someone with your extensive knowlege.

Hi Jimmy, how's London this Winter? Don't see you on the other forum anymore... ftmunch is right on the money here. I've known several girls for a decade or more and their nicknames have never changed in all that time. What does happen is confusion over the pronunciation. Rung or Lueng? Neuy or Noi? Pon or Porn? I have known one or two to change names but it has been an image thing. With half of Thailand being either Noi, Nok or Porn they don't need to change their nicknames. Some nicknames are also specific to katoeys, so if you're not sure the name can often be a giveaway, as if the Adam's apple wasn't enough. I do know one bar (Executive Lounge, PP2) where girls are often told to use a different name as the bar has a policy of not allowing two girls to share the same nickname. So if a customer asks for "Lek" there can be no mistakes. The girls will guard their full Thai name from us and from other Thai's as it is unique to them. There are far more of their own folk they want to avoid than farangs.

That's interesting because I thought these girls use their full names around the office. Guess I was wrong.

For many falangs a monosyllable is challenge enough.

I use the same handle on different boards. Some BG have an endearing nickname for me. Kok hook or cheap Charley.

More than you obviously. Your posts are so wide of the mark it must be embarrassing for you. 99.9% of Thai names are that long or longer (especially those of Chinese descent which tend to be the longest and most complicated - one way to tell their ancestry). That one is a simple one to pronounce in comparison to most (usually spelled Suraporn in English BTW). Your inference is that they have these nicknames so we can understand them. That their full names are too difficult for us to understand. Who is "We"? Occasional sex tourists (which I guess is what you are) whose only contact with Thai women is in a bar, their hotel or a restaurant? What utter bullshit. They have had these nicknames since time began. They have them all over Thailand. People who have never even seen a farang. They use them as a matter of course between themselves, rather than their full names, which are hardly ever used. It has nothing to do with farangs, or ANYBODY understanding their full names. Stick to commenting on things you know at least SOMETHING about.
