Yes, and no. But it doesn't matter either way, as long as you know what you are talking about. I guess that those who do not speak French get confussed for example among other things because in one case "classe" or not "classe", as in "Premier Cru Classe" versus "Premier Cru" does not matter because all the word means is "classified". Translated we are arguing if it is "Classified First Growth" or simply "First Growth" -it is the same thing. When you find literature on the "First Growths" from the 1855 classification, some say (I am quoting below): "Les premiers crus Ch. Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac Ch. Latour, Pauillac Ch. Margaux, Margaux Ch. Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac Ch. Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan" Others: "Premier cru classé" (same wines I am not going to list them again) And others: " Premier grands crus classés" Now, I will go look at the labels of the wines I have... and.... -Ch. Haut Brion: says "Premier Grand Cru Classe" -Ch. Mouton Rothschild: one year I have says "Premier Cru Classe" and another year says nothing -Ch. Lafite-Rothschild: says nothing -Ch. Latour: says "Premier Grand Cru Classe" Even the Chateaux themselves are not consistent. But who cares, as long as we know what we are talking about. Whatever it is, there are only 5 of them at the top of the ammended 1855 classification. So, if we know what we are talking about ... what would it matter? http://www.carret-freres.fr/grands_crus.asp http://premiercru.75cl.com/classement_medoc.htm http://www.terroirs-france.com/vin/grandscrusbordeaux.html Now, I hope this settles the issue and we can go back to beer in Thailand. Afterall, no matter what way you cut it, there are still only 5 red Bordeaus wines classified as "First Growths".

Got tired of drinking hot bitter beer in northeastern Thailand this last trip. So to my own amazement started adding ice to my Heiniken, Singhs, and Chang Beer. Ice actually makes Chang beer taste better. Part of the problem is the refrigerators are not turned low enough to save money (energy) so the beers warm up rapidly once taken out. And I thought I would never adopt this custom.

When staying in Chiang Mai I have the local supermarket deliver a crate of Chang every few days and stick it in the freezer section of the fridge - I do like my beer cold and agree with caleden that it tastes good that way too. Just a word to the wise - very cold beer on a hot stomach will send you running to the jacks with that familiar rumbling in your tummy. See Smegma - we are back on beer in Thailand
