Well certainly, if your home town ethos and... er, chosen lifestyle are so completely incompatible, maybe it's time to seek more personal space in the big city.
This is what places like LA, New York and London are for. Far more room to live the way YOU want to. They don't have to be that big, either.
As for social networks, sure - villages and small towns are a lot cosier, but the downside is that everyone knows your business and feels entitled to judge accordingly. Big cities are freer but anonymous - so you pays your money and you takes your choice. Most BGs, I think, put quite a bit of distance between their working activities and their home villages, but create new social networks to keep them going in BKK, Pattaya or wherever.
Nice to be perfectly frank, but not everyone can afford to be. Whoring in SE Asia is far from universally acceptable, and both careers and family relationships may be blighted. Too many people back home don't have the faintest idea what the farang P4P scene's about, and are only too ready to project paedophilia, sex slavery and other nasties onto it. This can be positively dangerous.

Move from the south, are you in Florida? Do what my Asian friends do, keep there traps shut about where they are going, and when they do go, they make up stories about how its on biz and never to Thailand or Cambodia, always to Hongkong, Shanghai, Tokyo etc. Most possibly, bible belt folks of US won't really know where you are going since they probably wont be able to point it out on a map, they only know names of hot-spot places they hear on Dateline NBC etc.
