Teacher brings up a very good point. If you go to a massage parlor, do not show them your passport.
Tell them you are American, British or Australian. Do not tell them you are Canadian or French. Some parlors have nationality restrictions and you would feel badly if you were not permitted in.
Don't worry about your accent. The Thai's don't pick up on accents very much.

Really, no CDN's allowed??? Wow that is odd... are you serous?? Hmm no not all Canadians are smart, or Americans or brits or whoever…… so please don’t think we all are bumbling idiots!. Its no problem to pass for an American, that’s what they think I am anyhow wherever I go (you would not believe how many people around the world think Canada is another US state.... and no I don’t speak Taiwanese!)
I think ill go for a gogo girl then, or a free lancer from what you say... does the free lancers keep themselves up well and std tests and so on, im used to dirty corner gal "freelancers".
Ill go for the majestic, don’t have my dates yet (just got back from Eliat Israel..... wow that’s a party town!) so hope to have firm dates soon.
Ill post when I get the dates. I must say that it leaves a sour taste in my mouth "NO CANADIANS ALLOWED".....are we that bad in Asia? Is it just the $$ or are we really pathetic there? If I knew that I would be called “JustSomeGuy”! In Europe its the opposite in a lot of ways "NO AMERICIANS ALLOWED", and they love CDN's. I know many Americans I have traveled with, wear a Canadian flag so they will have less problems.

FreeLancer is just that.
they are mercenaries, and they are subject to no one's rules.
in the PI we were even warned against dealing with FreeLancers because they were assumed to be FreeLancers because they could not conform to the rules for some reason or other, which could include having a disease, or unwillingness to get a test to prove otherwise...

Yeah, it really is a shame the way some of these girls feel about CDN people. Since you say you can pass as an American, you should be OK. Just don't let them know you wear a maple leaf.
I really don't understand this feeling either. The CDNs I know are unobtrusive and don't cause too much trouble. There is the odd hockey player that goes a little over the line but you guys from CDN are generally peace loving, fun type folks.
You might want to carry a small US flag to whip out if anybody starts questioning you. You could carry a French flag but the girls will then require you to have your own bar of soap before they will have anything to do with you.
Strange people, these Thai bar girls.

You are gonna be sorry you asked. Welcome to some Thai logic. They don't like dark skin because it means you are a menial worker and work in the fields. They don't like the Burmese because they invaded the country many years ago. And as was pointed out they don't like you. The reason the Thais don't welcome Canadians is because of their war with the French.
Try and stay with me on this.
Thailand had a war with the French just prior to World War 2. The Thais did okay and every school kid gets to learn about it. They kicked some French arse in the Gulf of Thailand in a naval battle around Ko Chang. The nasty french get the full treatment in Thai history and Thai schools.
The Thais were humiliated by the Japs in WW2 so it hardly gets a mention in Thai history.
Now since Canadians who speak English are regarded as Americans, the only Canadians the Thais know about speak French - so Canada is French, French is bad and Thais can't read a map so Canada and France sit side by side somewhere else in the world and none of them are overly welcome. Make sense? It shouldn't because its Thai logic.
Anyway as someone else said, just pretend to be something other than French or Canadian (same thing!) and you'll avoid some MINOR hassles.

French imperialism in Southeast Asia lasted for more than a 100 years, until their defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. The French primarily controlled what is today Vietnam, but they also tried to expand their influence to other areas in the region.
For many years the French colonialists brutally suppressed the Vietnamese independence movement. By the time that the French left Vietnam in 1954, they had pretty much killed off the Vietnam independence movement, except for the Communist Party. As we all know, the Communist movement in Vietnam led to US involvement in Vietnam in the 1960's.
The 100 year brutality of the French in Indochina did not go unnoticed in Thailand. There is nothing illogical about the Thai hatred of the French.
