Oldtimer hasn't used TCs since ATMs became common in Thailand. In fact, there seem to be more ATMs in BKK than any other city in the world.
And yes, I always keep an extra card on another account in the hotel safty box.
The exchange rate I get at the ATMs is usually as good as or better than what TCs offer...what's more you don't have to fork out a lot dough before your trip.

much to my surprise and disappointment, I found the use of the ATMs charged me (like 1 week later on my statement) another 1% or so for use of the ATM. (no mention of the international fee when I said "ok"). lol. I'm still not sure what is best when all factors are considered. Mayve TCs? Once you pay the fee, no more surprises. ???

FARK,, you where lucky,,,, my big surprise when returning from Thailand was when I used my ATM card in Isaan it was around AUD $14 each withdrawal WTF,, glad you reminded me to chase that up,, REDICULOUS

i'm not sure about atm type withdrawal fees but have noticed credit card companies mailing out updated terms with 1.5% fee for international atm cash withdrawal if your bank will issue tc's for free I think the small fee for exchange is well worth it read many posts of atm machine (eating) card, then what?

hi
i am plannin to be in bkk for 8 days and have 1500 american or 57 700 baht to spend to monger and eat and drink and transportation and a bit of shopping but mostly monger..
any thoughts if this is enought for the 8 days..
