Damn, BOTH barrels!

And all I did was to answer the little subtext question about the origin of the offending sig (which I sarcastically derided, before the other thread got it's deserved obliteration).

Killed by supposedly friendly fire...who'd a thunk it?

MrJoe
May I take a page from your book and suggest that you relax a bit? I wasn't taking a shot at you in any way. I was just explaining to everyone that no matter why he posted it or who says it -- be it African Americans, Ethipoians or John Lennon -- it bothers me.

Again, I really meant absolutely no criticism of your post and understood its intent. In fact my post wasn't even meant to be specifically directed towards you.

As for being supposedly freindly --- by whose supposition?

He has 11 posts but doing a search I can only find 3 of them. I remember rtb posting something that was taken as being disrespectful, for which he later appologized but there's 8 posts by NewGuy that I can't find.

When you do a search it only finds the topics a user has started and not anything they have replied to.

"Don't care who says/said it."

Since it SEEMED like an answer to my previous post, I took it as such. But I was relaxed the whole time...

55555 lol

C'mon, the fact that one is right on one count shouldnt mean that any and all discussion about the matter is forbidden. I was intellectually curious about what could the guy have intended to mean. Which of course doesnt validate the use.

Not condoning something doesnt mean that it can not be discussed. Otherwise we sound like catholic priest of 100 years ago.

BTW, is J. Lennon's song along the lines of what cmore says?

By the way, the N word has it origin in the spanish word for "black" :"negro". Which is somehow unfortunate, because by association one gets sometimes ugly looks in the USA when speaking spanish and saying something as inocuous as "I do not like that black shirt".

P.S. BTW, Yes, I do not like NewGuy's signature

ccvvbb - "When you do a search it only finds the topics a user has started and not anything they have replied to."

Actually there is a drop-down list box that allows one to select Posted in, Started by, or both.

But, on the other hand, his 8 other posts may have been deleted as well.  That's something I hadn't thought of.

MrJoe
I should have left well enough alone.

I never meant to forbid discussion of anything. My point was only to point my own complete intolerance for intolerance.

My post was in answer to Nokna's post on another thread, an argument from CCVVBB that we had in the past that pointed out the Black people in the US use the term, someone mentioning that he was from Ethiopia and yes -- HS's post. My point was just as I stated it; I don't care who uses it, I object to it. I should have preceded my statement with;

" I had forgotten that HS. Thanks for pointing that out but nonetheless..." I was succinct bedcause A) I do too much preaching as it is and B) I wanted it to have some impact.

Sorry if my response seemed aggressive or condemnatory of those who would discuss this. Iam NEVER in favor of ruling out discussion of ANY topic -- unless it would be detrimental to the board (or me!)

Yeah, um, something like what Smegma said!

Most of us here now are tolerant, except of the intolerant, unless their intolerance is of... intolerance!

I'm fried.

Just my 2 cents on the subject.

I agree with Mr. Joe, BoomARang and Kris.

I'm not Black, but am offended by the "N" word.

I agree 100% with BoomARang's post!! You Rock!!

I don't really care if NewGuy has a valid explanation for using it, even if everyone here presently were to accept it, or even if it is in common and accepted use where he is from.

The fact of the matter is that this is an open and public forum and that it is guarenteed that a percentage of new people to the board, probably a significantly high percentage, would take offence and more than likely come to wrong conclusions about not only the board itself but the people who are members as well.

I would partially agree with ccvvbb in that it needs no explanation, I would say it needs to be GONE, period, end of story.
