I've read all the responses in this thread and I'm still trying to figure out the up side of taking 18 y/o son out f***ing with Dad.
I have a 16 y/o daughter who just today told me she wants to start dating. I've talked to her about sex and I've told her it's an adult activity that's a lot of fun but there can be serious life changing consequences when she engages in this.
My wife and I have talked to her about how her body is changing and she will have physical urges that she can take care of herself. This is where Mom comes in handy  . The issue of relationships versus one night stands and how to handle each.
There's nothing inherently wrong with a strong sexual appetite. She just has to be aware of the dangers. My role as a parent is to guide her toward being a successful adult.
Interesting no one has suggested taking their adult daughter out with them in BKK? I wonder why?

I have been seen with my daughter *eldest) in Gullivers twice.
She has been Pattaya too.
Taken her 3 times to Thailand
She is 16 also
She is a christian and is an A grade student.
So education is good.
BOys are different an 18 year old man
Can go die for country.
He is old enough to play.
I wish I had had a dad who took me to Bangkok instead of the cricket or beach.

Pss my daughter became a christian as a result of giving to beggar experiences in Burma.
Travel is an education of sorts.
Even P4p for an 18 year old, he learns about the ""real"' world.
Beats the f*** out of fast cars and drugs, malls and movies, alcohol and sex with little ego faced darlings in the west.

No. If you read what I said again you will see that I am not directly opposed to him visiting hookers but rather that he should go out there by himself if that’s what he wants to do – without his father.

So much crap flying around in here that It's starting to look like a "manure factory".
My point is just this,, there are 18 year olds with brains of kids and there are 18 year olds that are far more mature. This needs to be assessed on an individual basis and who should know better than the father himself.
I will be in LOS late December and YES I will be taking my 18 year old son, yes I think his mind is sufficiently matured to handle seeing the P4P scene and intelligent enough to make an informed decision if he wishes to partake; this of cause will be his decision regarding what he wishes to do with HIS holiday.
We will undoubtably meet up with some members of this forum so they are welcome to do any "field reports" of him being sent to a mental assylum because he saw women in bikini's dancing at Rainbow4 or saw a P4P lady?????????????
I doubt the contact with the P4P scene will do anything more than enlarge his horizons,open his mind to alternatives in life and make him more selective with the pre-hardened aussie female shovenists we try to deal with here in Australia. ( Thats 90% of Aussie women, the other 10% are great people)

Do you take ilicit durgs now? No? Then preach away. However if you preach to your son after snorting a few lines, then you are doing more damage than good. The kid knows what you are doing and will not appreciate the hyprocracy.
I maintain that the same applies to P4P. You sneak around and play the punter whilst preaching to your son to be clean; when he finds out, and he will, he will hate your hyprocracy forever...

Sure, in an ideal world, he should -- furthermore, I find it far more engaging for the father to go out and enjoy the scene with his son (the way it used to be done), unlike now where no one wants to know what family members do...
I mean, I do draw a line of understanding if you don't want to hang out in the same room with your son, and hump away on some BG, but at the veary least, what's wrong going out to bars with your kid, and picking up girls???
Back in them olden days, the family that f***s together, stays together.

Yeah, reminds me of my sister - she smokes, but forbade the kids to smoke (after all, she smoked out of sight - yeah, whatever!). So when the kids picked up smoking, and she freaked out, she essentially got the finger from both kids, as she had no leg to stand on as she is smoking herself.

Folks,
It seems like there is a lack of mutual understanding here. We are not talking about preaching moralistic issues; we are talking about not encouraging our own children to engage in rather questionable activities.
For example, if I am smoker and my son takes up the habit, it would be sheer hypocrisy for me to attack him for it. Agreed. However, it would be irresponsible of me to say "here is a ciggie, sonny boy, smoke it up!". On the contrary, I would make sure that he is aware of the risks that this entails. I most certainly wouldn't cheer him on to light it up.
Same with prostitutes, really. It is his decision, but I won't encourage him to go out and do it; neither would I take him along to BKK.

Golden star, I think it is YOU that is missing the point.
Do you smoke in front of your son?
Do you drink in front of your son?
Or do you hide in the back shed?
Taking an 18 year old ( if mature minded) to BKK will not MAKE the decision for him. After all isn't this the same 18 year old attending parties with lots of girls. Isn't this the same young man that has recieved considerable counselling from parents / teachers etc to make informed decisions? Isn't this the young man that chooses or declines to smoke / drink / ETC.
Isn't this also the young man that has been given some of lifes most important decisions to make e.g voting and also the responsibilities of driving a motor vehicle ( also known as a deadly weapon).
All the way through the above situations this young man has had to ultimately make his own choices, we guide, we educate, we counsel but THEY make the decisions.
My son knows I smoke, he knows I do NOT want him to smoke.
My son knows I drink, he knows I want him to be a "moderate" drinker at most.
BUT it is NOT my decision.
And I REFUSE to hide in the shed!!!
