Can anyone give me a web site or a phone number to organise a Limo from BKK to Pattaya or give me a heads up on how hard it is to organise same day transport.
Me & 4 buddies will be overnighting in BKK tommorrow night before leaving after lunch for Pattaya

The problems that everyone has with taxis/meters/rip offs etc. is an inevitable consequence of the fact that taxi fares are just too low. Taxi drivers simply cant make a living in this country.
Consider these facts:
1. The taxi meter rate has not risen in this country for over 10 years. Meanwhile the cost of both new vehicles and gas has effectively doubled (largely due to baht devaluation).
2. The cost of driving a taxi is roughly Bt1300/day. Bt800 car rent and insurance. Bt500/day petrol. 95% of taxi drivers rent their vehicles.
3. The driver is unlikely to make more than Bt200/hour (the cost of a taxi from airport to mid-sukhumvit excluding tolls). If the taxi is stuck in a traffic jam, stationary for an hour, the fare is Bt80!!
4. Assuming that the taxi is occupied half the time - the taxi driver needs to work about 12 hours simply to break even.
You will get a lot of crooks driving taxis cos honest drivers cant make a living...

Dead Right Abrak. Taxis are cheap in BKK, but it is mainly the fact that the industry is entirely deregulated, with too many drivers slicing up the pie for taxis to make a living. THere is a driver I use in BKK who used to be a cabbie, and bought his own car to stop paying rent on it to reduce his overhead - but he still wasnt making enough. Only occasionally was this because he was stuck in traffic with a fare - but because he didnt have a fare in the cab - the longest I have ever had to wait for a cab in BKK was about 3 minutes.
Too many DJ's not enough mic's......

Ouch, it seems that I have been a naive tourist, though I have been in and out of Thailand quite a few times.
Everything is paid for the company so I did not really bother to check the costs, plus in airports like Malaysia they have a very high surcharge just for cabs going from the airport so I get used to them.
But Thailand is still safer than Indonesia : (
I normally book a round trip limo at the counter average of 1,300 Baht, this is the limo service right?
Anyways, once I haild a cab infront of the MBK, immediately he got flagged down by a traffic police and I think he had to pay a fine of XX, any idea what was this amount.
In the end he looked so depressed that I passed him 5,000 baht. Language barieer so no way to talk, anyway.
I normally tip the bellboy in the morning to get a cab for me around 20-40 baht and another 20 baht for the metered taxi drivers ( Fare of around 50-70 Baht)
Is this the norm in Bangkok? Hate to contribute to rising inflation or to be a bad skinflint any advise anyone/

I dont mind paying a fair fare but I hate being scammed, I use the airport limos at the start of the holiday to get me in the relaxed mood and a cab back at the end. Always say 300 including tolls, its up to the driver which route he takes, but I can tell you its a lot shorter than when the meter is running.
Cars can be hard to get at the airport on Mondays and Fridays so you may have to wait, other days its just pay at the hire desk and go. There are several hire desks just as you exit the customs hall, have heard that Thai Limo have up'ed their rates excuse given 'to pay for new cars' to a friend??
I used A1 cars this time and a tout who took me to another hall as no cars available no taxis either it was a Monday!! Had to waite nearly an hour when Iasked for my money back a mini van appeared from nowhere!! the journey took another 1.5 hrs to Sukhumvit as it was pissing with rain, so was glad I was not in a metered taxi.
I heard that taxi fares would be increased a year or so back, seems a senoir police chief was behing it as he own a fleet of cabs, perhaps thats the reason for cabs being pulled over but I bet they are not his!!! I did notice cabs being stopped a lot this last trip, there were whole lines of police pulling them over on Sukhumvit, maybe they were making 'charity collections for new year' ?????????
Cab drivers are the same all over the world I know cos I used to be one, a mini cab driver in London.

Just a quick point - if there are no taxis at arrivals walk up to outside the departures areaand grab one as they are dropping people off - I always do this when the arrivals area has a queue for taxis.
