Sounds like a simple ideology to me to go by.
As long as your dealing with yourself only, it's ok. Once you bring someone else into it say your kid who looks to you for guidance, moral compass, etc it falls apart. Couple of quick examples, let's go drinking tonite, I'll drive or I'm gonna score some drugs and I'll leave the baby at home in his crib while I go do some crack.

If handled correctly it can have opposite results.
My eldest daughter was alittle eratic and rebellious her mother informed me prior to her Asian experiences.
I went in the opposite direction, from rules and groundings.
I let her chat to girls in bars in Albiet ones that serve food and were showing sports.
It wasnt full swing time and before the punters really ventured out, and my girlfriend spoke Thai to them and got them drinks for not mentioning the obvious (that they were hookers)
This had the desired affect, as the girls were young only a couple of years older than my daughter, and they laughed alot together.
They really liked having a blue eyed blond 16 year old farang girl to touch and comb hair and envy.
My daughter liked the attension and saw their humanity, asked questions about life in the country.
Then we (daughter and myself and girlfriend went country) I let her ride motor bikes (after teaching her) they were only 125 horsepower and she went slow along quiet farm tracks with us in tow.
The freedom released alot of her teenage tensions.
She travelled into Burma and started to see real poverty which ultimately turned her into a christian.
Her mother was very impressed at whatever she did and saw there as it changed her direction.
Education isnt always along moralizing Thailands sex industry, while farang television indoctrinates other crap into their head.
Aside from blaming the weather on terrorists its culture is indicative of a shallow society.
Seeing the "'other side"' taught humbleness and kindness to my daughter...to this day though a christian she greets me with a heart felt wai. ( hands together greeting and show of warmth )
The west is too obsessed with the nature of flesh for pleasure being evil and associates the people involved as such.
WHILE the destruction of flesh in violence is regarded as entertainment.
