Does anyone with a Thai calender handy know the dates for Songron next April. I am trying to revolve my April trip around those dates.
Just when you thought Thailand was a good time, it gets even better during the five days of the Songron Festival. Had an awesome time last April.

Songkran festival is a Thai traditional New Year which starts on April 13 every year and lasts for 3 days. Songkran festival on April 13 is Maha Songkran Day or the day to mark the end of the old year, April 14 is Wan Nao which is the day after and April 15 is Wan Thaloeng Sok which the New Year begins.

...And in Pattaya it starts on the 12th and lasts until the 19th of April, my holiday plans are also based on the date of Songkran, I will be getting the hell out of Thailand by the 10th April.
I have been there and 3 days is bad, 7 is hell, I am very surprised that travel insurances do not have an execution clause for Pattaya between the 12th to the 19th April.

But Bangkok was ok last year lasted for three days and
after 7.00 in the evening could go out for a cold beer without getting wet.
i was in Pattaya and left as it started, someone threw water at me on beach road on the last day as I was coming back from the beach.No way I stay there during songkran it goes on for days but wha ti heard its more farang get involved well F*ok that.
basically nowhere to go and hide, in bkk no sweat quite fun watching it all. Pattaya bores me after a week anyway much prefer bkk.
Will be in town 2005 especailly for songkran, each to his own.

Last April I spent Songkhran in Chiang Mai, and really enjoyed it - the streets were thronged with thousands of Thais and comparatively few farangs; traffic thoroughly jammed, and water from the big moat flying everywhere....but everyone happy, no one being mean-spirited about it, and the whole thing ending every night around 6 so you could still dress for dinner without being soaked.
From what I've heard of Songkhran in Pattaya, I don't wish to be there for it; but I will be back in CM for it this year for at least a day or two.

From my many visits to thailand in April I have found that songkran itself isnt so bad but the worst period is just after Wan Nao (end of songkran) when all the thai girls go home to their families (in rural areas and cities away from resorts usually) and have a bit of holiday time from work. For a couple of weeks after Songkran the bar/clubs etc in my experience are only half staffed with their usual quota of girls.
Just my humble observation.

I love Songkran. Time to play urban commando. I am a re-enactor so this is just another step, but with plenty of hot babes around rather than a bunch fatsos that have not gotten laid in 20 years.
My team (friends and TGs) put on urban camo and web gear. I bring to good guns from Wal Mart and we all carry satchels with extra water and plenty of ballons. Some us also carry pistols. We love to going commando-style raids in the caverns of Siam Square, Sukhumvit Sois, and this year we are planning to hit Soi 3 to recreate Fallujah.

Maybe this could sound like black humour,thats not my intent,,,but how the people could celebrate the next songkran playing and splashin around with the WATER after all this 5000 deads and damages. (?)
surely the centennial tradition won't stop,but hey...it could become a bit disrespective,no?.just my 2 cents!
