I have a reservation which cannot be cancelled/

I am american citizen and have now found out that
the Thai rule for passport is 30 days, not 31.

When I get to Don Meung can I get a 1 day visa and
if so, what penalties will be inflicted on me

Would appreciate any solution that does not
tell me to go to the Thai consul

Stay in the transit area for one day before going through immigration. If that option does not appeal to you, then just visit an immigration office in whatever town or city you are in. It is a simple process to extend your 30 day visa for a week. To my knowledge, you can not get a one day visa extension at the airport.

A lot of people will likely tell you to just stay the extra day in Thailand, and pay the 200 baht fine when you leave.

Remember that if you are checked for any reason by the police while on a visa overstay, they have every right to put you in jail. Not a nice prospect to end your holiday.

Another option is just make a visa run to the border during your stay, this gets you another 30 days. There are services that offer A/C coach rt transportation to Cambodia border for around 2000. If you were planning a trip up north to Chaing Rai, it would be even easier.

I've overstayed my visa twice, once for 1 day when I didn't realize they counted both arrival and departure days as a full day each, even while my plane landed at 11:30 PM and departed at 7:00 AM. They allow a 1 day grace period on the fine, so I didn't have to pay anything.

Another time I overstayed for 2 weeks, thinking I had 90 days instead of 30. Fortunately, no official has ever asked to see my passport. If you don't want to take a chance, just stay in your hotel until ready to leave on your departure day, they're not going to hassle you at the airport for a one day overstay. If they ask to see your departure ticket on arrival and notice the difference, just tell them you plan to visit some casinos on the Cambodian border.

Just overstay the day... the chance that you will be questioned or arrested is very slim.

Maximum is THB 200 fine, payable at the airport upon departure.

Don't worry about a thing.

I´ve over stayed about 4 days and 6 days both of my trips. I think the rule here is they like your money.

I´ve never heard of someone being stopped but I guess it could happen.

The Thai consulate has proven to me to be the most efficient one I´ve ever been to. No line, drop off the passport, pick it up the next day. Now going to the immigration office IN thailand is a pain in the kester.
