I like to book hotels with in room safes as I have control of my money 24/7. Otherwise I use the lock box in the lobby. I use a money wallet with a small lock on it for the safe. When I used envelopes I would write how much money I had left in the envelope. I don't carry my ATM card or credit cards with me. I will get enough money out for two days. I carry enough money for the night and I leave in the room 1K in small bills for my BG. I don't have to fumble around with money when I've had a few drinks in me. I make the BG shower first and I put my money away in the safe before she gets out. I never tell a new BG when I'm leaving LOS if I do I tell her. two weeks. Some will be prone to steal from you if they think your leaving the next day. edit in: PopSecret at the price I pay for a hotel, what meal tickets? Good idea. edit in: VancoverJay the problem with one baht coins it takes to long to count out 500. edit in: Walk of Shame, what a load of crap. I want the hotel security staff to copy her ID info. It makes the BG think twice before she rips you off. If you don't do this what are you going to tell the police? She's 5'2" black hair, dark eyes, brown skin and O ya she's from Udorn. That works.

All good advice, and we know lenght of stay is one of the first questions you're likely to be asked. I also wanted to add that you probably shouldn't leave your meal tickets lying around either. Quick and easy to tell how long your stay is just by checking the tickets.

and don"t forget to hide your airline ticket/bus ticket, whatever. Wear only old, worn out underwear so she will think you have no money anyway. Pay her in wrinkled, dirty 20 baht notes that you have wrapped in a rubber band and have been keeping in that little satchel you wear around your waist. Gotta keep these bar girls strait (or is it straight?).

Keep all your money in 1 baht coins. Much too heavy to steal too much.

Wow, what a laugh that was. Really guys, you're killing me. I'd hate to see your A-material. Anyway, I didn't think too much about getting robbed either, until it finally happened to me on my last trip. If you think my advice is bullshit, how about giving some real advice from such well known long-timers as yourselves? Or maybe helping newbies is no longer worth your time.

The best advise I could give a newbie is to avoid freelancers, just bite the bullet and pay the bar fine. Also, avoid Patpong. I've only had 2 girls steal money from me (about 2000 each) while I slept, and I'm convinced one was trying to help out a friend of hers that had sustained a minor injury in a motorcycle accident earlier that day.

I have a question. First it is better to be safe then sorry. And I have never more then say 3000 baht in my pocket/room. So I try to live by BigDUSA's rules. In my experience (that is not worth much compaired to many of you) I have NEVER ever been the victim of theft. I have had girls ASK for more money in all sorts of ways (you know the buffalo story and such), but they never stole from me. And I do like to go with freelancers or other girls of dubious origin. (I never have taken a girl from Patpong, so that works in my favour, I think.) I have been the victim of all sorts of (failed) scams, so I had to GIVE them money, but they never have TAKEN money from me. Have I been lucky, am I a better judge of character then you or is it an urban myth that the girls will rob you blind? (With urban myth I mean that it is a real threat, that happend to a few persons and is now hyped to the point that it will happen to everybody. Same as the fear of being killed by Bin Laden. The chance of being killed by a comet is greater, but everybody fears him and nobody is looking for comets.) So my question is : Have many of you had things stolen from you or is it just that you heard of someone, who knew someone, that has been robbed? And if you have nothing stolen did you give them a chance? I know I did many times, especialy with the long LT's.

Never had anything, money or goods, stolen from me while in LOS - and I do leave stuff out all the time. I'm just careful about the girls I pick, and don't go hogwild picking twitchy freelancers from Suk. Still, no guarantees - I'm sure I'll get stung someday.
