Well this IS "newbies" and that is me and it IS "questions" and that's what I have. So I hope this is the place, if not flame away I'll try to do better next time.
Wanted to go to Thailand for years, I'm not young - in fact bordering on "dirty old man" but found work in Asia which means I'm off the leash for awhile. Don't know how I'll explain those stamps in the passport if the wife has a look when I get home but anyway, with heart in mouth I hit a chat site - bingo. Couple of girls right away ask when am I coming, do I want a "guide" etc.
Loved the look and sound of one young sweetie uni' students who SAYS she's "NOT a bargirl and doesn't normally do this, but (I) seem such a nice guy etc etc". At first I said sorry, I can't imagine you'd show me the kind of nice time I'm looking for. Then she says, well I'm NOT innocent in fact I'm a hot girl. I'll provide everything you want, sex, you name it - wow! Age difference no problem, but she wants 2,000 per day. Adding b/f + l/t fee and "taxi" fare for a normal bargirl together, she seems a pretty good deal. The one ex-pat I know there says this is HUGE money for a 22 y/o girl to ask, but I dunno. Never paid for a companion before like this.
So there it is. Have I lucked into the start of a perfect holiday, or is she having a lend of me? The Web sites offering "guides" are asking stupid prices like 10,000/day. so if she really does show me around, keep me warm at night and stop me from getting ripped off by every vendor in BKK (and possibly Ko Samet) seems I should look no further. Ok here is my advice.
1) The price is perfectly reasonable.
2) I am assuming you want a GFE rather than come here ang shag loads of different hookers.
3) She might be telling the truth - after a bit of cash and some fun. She might be a hardened hooker. She might be a wicked girl trying to snare a decent sponsor.
4) So go for it but make a back-up plan. Tell her you are coming to Bangkok first and will see how it goes - if you hit it off fine, if not then you will pay her for a couple of days and say goodbye. She will appreciate this. You should really mean it. Do not ruin your holiday sticking with a chick you do not like.
5) Try to keep a level head whatever happens and avoid the 'this is the love of my life scenario'. You met her on the internet - she is somewhere between a naughty girl looking for fun and a bad girl. Whatever happens dont forget this.
6) As long as you keep your head and have a back up plan you have everything to gain and little to lose.
7) Avoid all other advice and flames you may or may not receive!!
8) If you have the time, chat to her before you come and then you might get a better idea of what she is after. But however well you know her... she may well turn out to be something different.
9) Have fun and tell us what happens....

don't feel like you MUST do this. If she turns out to be a dog or isn't quite what you expected, dump her, maybe give her cab money, and continue on
BTW, 2k is not outrageous, as Uni students sometimes ask for 3 and 4k, but it also depends on how hot she is, both in looks and in bed-side manner 
note : she might also have a female friend who could join you some nights. Might be worth asking

Try it out but don't hesitate to pay her off if its not your speed. @K plus you pay for food etc etc is reasonable for BKK. Same arrangement in Pattaya for 1K a day.
There are many many fish in the Thai pond. They want money, you have money so you do the choosing.
At the end of the day its all business so treat it as such and you should be ok.

If I were you, I would first meet her to see what she is like in person but will not committ to anything LT until you have visited these following places : NEP, Nana disco and parking lot, soi cowboy, soi 33, Poseidon MP....etc. And if she is still right up there with the girls you will find in those places, by all mean, call her back to arrange something LT. But I will guarantee you will find girls that are equal or better than her in no time. Of course, I could be completely wrong and you have just hit the jackpot. If that is the case, we would demand a FR in complete, minute by minute, blow by blow details.

Abrak's advice is nearly always very sensible and he makes some very good points. I'm assuming that because you met her on a chat site, you may not have actually seen what she looks like. If you have seen her and like how she looks and generally get a good impression of her, then fine. But if she turns out to be a minger, that is why plan B is necessary.
The main problem that you'll have as a virgin to LOS, is that here you are, presumably over 50 years old, experiencing a 22 year old who might be really cute and very sexy. I promise you that if those two things are combined with her youthful age and body, you are in real danger staying with her for more than a few days. Because you will quite possibly find your menopausal hormones going into overdrive and fall for her big time.
If you can exercise the sort of control over your emotions to prevent that happening, then you're a better man then I am Gungha Din. You've been warned!
Maybe a good idea to go to Ko Samet alone and try out the Bar Scene there. If you take her there too she'll definitely get very attached to you too.
Let us know how it all goes. And good luck. The next problem that you'll have after experiencing LOS, is how you'll swing another trip - if you're still married.

Thanks, really do appreciate all your comments and suggestions. This trip is a huge gamble (and expense) for me so I want to be as well-prepared as I can. As I had hoped, contacting a girl well in advance has given me a chance to find out some truth about her. She recently had to change her chat ID - because her g/f "stole" it. Right away I suspected the old bar-girl switcheroo but there was no sudden loss of English language skills and I got the same answer as before to a personal question. Of course I'll chat voice/cam' a few times before going too.
Suddenly she's not her usual happy self. Seems when she lost access to the old ID she also lost the contact details of some "customers"! Worse, she's contacted the "real b/f" in Australia who is trying to arrange a visa to bring my sweetie there (permanently?) and is therefore presumably sponsoring her even as she's writing my name in her diary. You are a role in a play/movie. A lot of things you are told or you say will not be the truth. The interesting thing about this "game" is that mostly, you cannot tell what is the truth and what is not. Nor should you care.
Thai husband/falang wife/not working/no customers/many customers/how old/friend or sister/brother or thai boyfriend. Trying to find out the truth is futile to a newbie (and many times, to the experienced as well). It is also totally irrelevant. I suggest you ask NO questions that require them to think about what answer they think you really want to hear. Just go with the flow, you will have a better time, trust me.
And don't commit to anything long-term. Have fun and write a field report.
