Get a Public Taxi from outside the Terminal (ignore the Touts inside), there is a 50 Baht surcharge (payable to the Driver at the completion of your ride) and the fare should be about 150-200 depending on the Traffic. Plus the 2 tolls which are 20 and 40 Baht! So allow for 300 but may be as low as 260.

If there are too many people queing for a taxi then go upstairs to the DEPARTURE area where the Passengers ARRIVE to catch their outbound flights... Thank Dr. Looooookk Jump in a taxi there as they drop people off... Same price just less time wasted... TC

Actually, if you go up to the arrivals floor, you will not have to pay the 50 baht extra airport charge; most of the taxis at the end closest to the exit will be happy because they are not registered to pick up people at the airport so they often have to drive back into the city empty, or at least part of the way empty. It is 20b for the tollway to Din Daeng; 40b from Din Daeng to Ploenchit and the actual cab fare would depend on distance and time wasted sitting in traffic, but I'd put it somewhere around 150b - 200b; so similar to Oz, total of around 210b - 260b + 50b if you get in the crummy cabs outside the airport departure. If you can't be bothered walking upstairs, and have hardly any luggage, going onto the road is fine too.

I think for the most part the suggestions for the cost are very close. I think everyone is assuming you are coming in late night though. If you are landing during the day, it might cost more with the heavier congestion. At late night, the ride might take somewhere around 30 minutes I believe.

If you are travelling light why not jump on the airport bus? I have used these a couple of times when the queue for the 'official' taxis is long and they always seem to depart within 10mins of boarding (you can wait 20-30mins in the taxi queue when busy). Price is just over 100Bt and will drop you off at or very near to Soi 15. I used to get a taxi from upstairs 'drop-off' but it seems more people are using this method and the 'waiting' is getting as long as the downstairs ones. If you arrive early evening, why not take a pleasant stroll into town from the airport? It's only about a 5hr walk!

gentlemen. the tolls are 20 baht each. the meter will be 120 to 170, depending on traffic between soi 1 and 15. there is a extra charge of 50 baht if you use taxi on arrival. if you do as tripops suggested (the way I usually do it) there is gonna be no surcharge. choose a new taxi, and give the driver a "nice" tip of 20 odd baht, if you are happy with his services. have a good trip and UTFSE. rtb

Around 11:46 am. No, really, it's around lunchtime and many office people get in their car to have lunch. The advantage between the taxis in front the Arival hall is that you have a way of expressing your complaints (if any). If you catch a taxi at the departure area, the taxi driver might still see you for a newbie and charge you accordingly. -------------------------------------------------------------------- If there are too many people queing for a taxi then go upstairs to the Arrivals area and jump in a taxi there as they drop people off.. ------------------------------------------------------------------- This is called, of course, the Departure area.... TC = Totally Confused.

When I made my first trip to BKK last year, I arrived around 23:00, so here are my experiences for what it's worth. Be prepared to face legions of touts in the airport lobby as soon as you pass through customs. They will be wearing official uniforms and trying to offer a taxi ride to you. Do NOT be fooled. For curiosity's sake, I have inquired one of the more persistent touts what the rates are. "600 Baht" was the answer. Yeah, right. Ignore these shysters. Make your way outside and find one of the taxi booths; they will be easy to spot. I gave my destination at the booth and was quickly assigned a driver. The whole procedure took about 2 minutes. Now, lots of folks warn you to tell the driver to turn the meter on. This is probably wise, but I decided to ask the driver upfront before we got into the car. "200 Baht" was the answer and he took me to my hotel on Soi 11. And that's how much I paid. Hope this helps. Golden Star
