This might seem like a stupid question but I have to know one way or the other. Are those girls waiting in "arrivals" at Don Muang all booked in advance or do some go there on spec'?
The reason I ask is that in forums like this I've seen references to the flock (clump? herd? pride?) of Thai girls waiting for farangs to arrive. Also an older, very "proper" Thai lady I know just told me that recently she went through the airport and she thought "they all looked very sincere" and should look after me nicely! Didn't know what to say to that.
When people advised me to ignore all touts at the airport I assumed they meant for "limo's" etc but are some girls there touting for business too? If so that would certainly short-cut the whole business of finding a companion for that first night (I am arriving about midnight after all). A quiet drink and bit of "get to know you" at the airport before joining me in the taxi to the hotel would be classic. Somehow I doubt it, but it doesn't cost anything to ask - flame if you must, but do it nicely ok? This IS the section for newbie questions remember, F.

Felix888 you would be TOTALLY looking in the wrong place at arrivals. Those girls are meeting their one and only love and won't give you a second glance - they are seriously pre-booked and have only one man on their mind.
For a pick up at the airport wander up to departures and wait for that one man to walk through into passport control, give her 10 seconds to dry her tears and she'll be good to go. Enjoy...

Wow - being an ex-taxi driver myself (many moons ago) I'm aware of the advantages of going up to "departures" to find a free cab (and save myself an airport fee I think at D/M). However I never THOUGHT of getting a return GIRL from "departures".
Dunno if that would really work though, I mean it's just a BIT tacky to wait for some guy to disappear through the doorway and jump on his missus, na? If they can REALLY change horses that quickly they're a lot more callous than any girls I've ever known. Can't quite decide if you're having me on or not, F.

Thanks for the comment BKKD but I think that's in reference to a different question I asked. What I'd like to know is whether there was any hassle checking out? And have you tried this at the Nana Hotel? An obvious possiblity is (if you paid by CC) finding $100 on it for mini-bar items, after you left. You wouldn't know if the hotel's scamming you, the maids ripped you off or your tilac filled her purse before leaving. (I plan to pay the hotel bill in cash anyway). Thanks F.
