whats the legal age of consent in thailand ?
how would I know if she is of age.
I only speak english, am I going to be able
to understand anything on her identification ?
I understand the thai police take this seriously,
I dont want to find myself in this kind of trouble

When you find out the legal age, subtract that from the present year 2005. Then add 543 to get Thai year of consent. Ask to see her ID card. If her year of birth is higher than what you came up with, let her go.

Don't know what the legal age of consent is, but the legal age for working in the go-go bars is 20, according to one of the waitresses I spoke to. A lot of the girls looked like they were under 20 though.

I printed it out and took the table with me. It only worked once though, as the language barrier seemed to get in the way most of the time. (The girl was telling the truth about her age, and I just confirmed it with her animal year). Most of the ones that understood me did not know their animal year. Also, there are some animal translation issues. For example, "chick-hen, right now, chick-hen" turned out to be Year of the Roster. "Cow", is of course, Year of the Ox.
As for using the search engine, this forum is suffering from its own success. I wanted to find out what a "starfish" was. Couldn't find it in the Newbie FAQ, got about 1000 hits from the search engine, but had to read through about 12 posts before I finally found one that defined what that was.

UTFSE will not help much because of the amount of conflicting information you will find, even on this prestigious forum. To the best of my knowledge, the legal age is 18. As noted above, you need to understand the current Thai calendar year to calculate their age from their id card. It has happened that some TG’s use someone else's (often a sister) id card if they are underage, so the id card is not foolproof.
Individual businesses may establish their own rules, but I would not take much stock in what they claim. Anytime someone asks you if you want a young girl, always refuse, because they are likely talking about someone under 18.

Age of consent in Thailand (M & F) is 15. If a transaction is involved it's 18. Well documented (i.e. you can find the relevant Thai law on the Internet). Transaction=gift/money=prostitution.

Yes, it is easy to find the correct answer. But it is also easy to find the wrong answer. It is not so easy to know which answer is correct.

I would have thought (based on my limited experience) that this would be uncommon in BK these days, as long as you stick to named/recognized establishments. Bars can legally only employ girls over 18, with heavy repercussions if the police find out otherwise. Its in there interests too. The odd freelancer maybe, dunno.
