I assume that the farang smell is caused by dietary differences. If that is true, just showering won't completely remove it. Just like garlic on your breath is in your bloodstream and brushing your teeth doesn't entirely eradicate it.
Is there something I can take or foods I can eliminate from my diet prior to visiting to make sure I am as inoffensive as possible? And how much lead time would I need to smell as nice as possible?

Unless you have eatin' something completely stinky, or have done some physical activitity outside that makes you stink and sweat, I would not really worry about it. Just take a shower regularly and wear deoderant and maybe some light cologne. It's not like the females or people in Thailand expect anyone to smell like a rose. Especially not after walking around in the heat and humidity!!
Anyways, if you visit and MP, they will bath you prior to any other action. And if you visit and G-Club, Go Go, beer garden, or pick up a freelancer, then they will all probably ask you to shower once you get back to where you are staying.
If you are really concerned about it, hirer a private car to drive you to each destination so you will spend little time in the heat and outside. No heat and humidity, will mean less sweating ... generally speaking!!
But, there are some smells you just can't get rid of.

I would suggest a lot less meat and bread in your diet, at least beef. Go more toward fish, chicken or pork for your meats. Eat rice every day, for every meal. And lots of nam pla

Farang smell? To BG, MG, ST/LT G. This is not an issue that demands much concern. Smell is not the scent that attracts or dislikes by the females to you it is the money they wish to earn and hopefully to marry one of you farangs that may offer them better life (hopefully). Also it could be an Asian too.
There was case of a filipinas working aboard. She had a relationship with a Thai man. Neither could hardly put up a conversation. Within a month she was pregnanted and she was repatriated by her employer back to Manila. Asked her what had the guy given her that won her heart over She replied just three boxes of Chocolate to date!. This Thai man had family in Thailand. Did he possessed special Thai smell or it is the smell of chocolate?

I have seldom heard of TGs complaining about "farang" smells. However, they do complain often about the smells from the Africans and some of the middle eastern men. For some silly reason, TGs tend to avoid Indian food (which is amongst my favorite), their reason? Their perception that it smells as bad as the person who cooks it. That perception is soon broken down, once I get them to try the food for themselves.
