HI,
I will be visiting bkk soon, and hv been thr a couple of time earlier..but its alwayz been with a friend, this time im gonna travel alone. Just wanted to get an i dea whether its safe to visit the go go bars at maybe clinton plaza and soi cowboy on ur own or can u get cheated?. Also since i will be staying at the Ambasador, is it safe to walk in the area late nite, when ur getting back from these bars or there chances of getting mugged?
Any info?

thailand is one of the safest countries in the world. don't worry about getting mugged. if you keep an eye on your bills the likelihood of being cheated is also minimal. if that really happens just complain as in the west and things will be usually corrected to your satisfaction!
i don't see any problems with these areas, the only backdraw are the enormous amount of species with and without dick pretending to be woman that do hang around there after midnight! usually harmless as long as you do not provoke them!

'Don't worry about getting mugged' .
I won't take that as a guarantee ..........
But Sukhumvit Road is safe around 1-2 am, because there are so many people on the street, those muggers won't even notice you.
As long you're don't wear heavy gold chains or wave with your wallet filled with loads of money, I won't worry if I were you.
And if you encounter a 'kratoey' (they usually hangout between Soi Cowboy and Soi 19, look mean ... real mean.

just an experience of mine from my first trip to thailand.
2 hours later i was still walking and i was going up and down all the streets i could see,but having no luck.
was stopped by 2 policeman on a bike and i got the interrogation of who i was,where was i going and was searched.
explained my situation and they told me the way.
eventually found my hotel and if i had just kept walking along the road from the massage place,i would have been there in around 20 minutes.
slept long and late and sorted myself out in the morning for a day of sightseeing.
then horror upon horror,i had a problem,all my credit cards were missing from my wallet.
why do i have these problems?,on another trip i lose my passport,but this was very serious at the time.
to this day i believe the police who had stopped me the night before had taken them.
i had to take the cards out of my wallet to show them my hotel card and it was the last time i ever saw them.
i remember putting them back,but as one body patted me,the other had my wallet and was looking through it.
but i felt safe being there,after all they were the police and surely were there to look after me?.
i have no proof and would never doubt the integrity of the boys in brown,but.

You are absolutely NOT responsible for any charges for which you did not execute a hard swipe and sign hard copy receipts. Only exception would be where vendor can show proof of shipment to your address, which they cannot in this instance.
BTW in 15 years living here I have never been stopped by the cops while walking down the street at any hour of the day or night. And I used to walk home from Soi 4 to Soi 22 at 3-4-5 AM frequently.
This IS one of the safest places to be on the planet.
Much safer than New Orleans or Washington DC

i had no problems with any unauthorised tranactions on my cards.
i rang home at 4 a.am[u.k. time] and got the family to cancel all the cards.
had money sent to the siam commercial bank and i picked it up the same day.
apart from this occasion,i have never had any trouble and felt completely safe walking around any part of thailand[bangkok,patong and isaan].
this occurence with the police happened on my first ever day/night in thailand and you can understand i was a bit nervous when stopped by the police.
they obviously saw me as a complete newbie and i of course i was a little worried being in a strange country and being stopped by the police.
but as i say,i have no proof.

There is no place that is 100% safe. But, Thailand and Singapore are probably the safest countries that I have been to.
Back to Thailand though. I think if you just be aware of your surroundings and do not flash money/wealth and be cool, then no one should have any problems. I would also suggest blending in and not making trouble with the local people.
The issues tha Joey94 brought up, I've only heard happening with Freelancers on the street. Meaning, you take the lady back to your room and she might drug you and take all you items. But, I have no proof this happens, just what I've heard.

A few years back, I was walking home alone on Sukhumvit Road, near Asoke, and was approached by a Katoey. She was grabbing my arm, trying to get me to go with her, I wriggled myself out of her grip, and walk away, only to find my wallet missing. During the struggle, she had picked my pocket. Though I was drunk, I realized what had happened, and ran after her, and demanded my wallet back. I got it back without any hassles.
Another case, a friend of mine picked up a freelancer along Soi Cowboy, took her back. All he remembered was that he was sucking on her tits, and after that, he was knocked out. He woke up the next morning to find some money, his watch and some other objects missing. Moral of the story, wash those tits before sucking on them!
